I am thinking of purchasing a P43 board. I've heard that the north and southbridges can become very hot and lead to stability issues.....is this so?

The board will not be overclocked so it might not be an issue for me ( i hope!)
I'd like a few opinions ( especially from people who own the gigabyte boards) please.

I don't really want to spend over £100 for a board as i don't need Crossfire or RAID.......The EP45-UD3L looks quite nice, although i've heard there's an issue with the onboard sound if using XP SP3

I'll have to make my mind up eventually,so i hope you guys and gals can help persuade me.

Many Thanks

It is tricky but i think i have it sussed it seems to be all about the order of installing/updating drivers and windows updates. If i have got it fine tuned i'll tell you the sequence when i'm positive that my system is running smoothly. (It's not a problem as such more a technique to get the drivers installed in the right order before updating sp3).

Thanks Plec,
Before purchasing my new motherboard i'm trying to find out as much as possible. I've been perusing several gigabyte boards ( always go for gigabyte), i'm still trying to narrow it down to a board thats fairly cheap ( don't need all the bells and whistles)...but has good cooling of the N & S bridge. At the moment i'm leaning to the GA-EP45 UD3L......but that could change..

Sorry i forgot about this reply as i'm having problems with my new build.

That aside, the way i install the motherboard drivers are as follows and i don't get any device manager yellow triangles as a result:

First you need a full down load of sp3 on cd or a pendrive so you don't have to use window update to install it. You also need all the latest chipset and audio drivers ready to go too.

Install xp
Install chipset drivers and audio hd but do not install the MS UAA BUS driver.
Install sp3
Install windows update and select the MS UAA BUS driver for download along with all your other critical updates.
Install other drivers.

I have no conflicts using this method - but i do have a hardware problem which aren't heat related. The north bridge is the hottest thing in my rig, apart from my gfx card, at 40 degrees but this is about standard.

I am using the very board you are talking about right now, and I've had no problems at all, my E5200 OC'ed at 3Ghz, and the onboard sound is absolutly fine, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap, good board.

EDIT: Ack, I thought you said EP-43-DS3L, sorry, none the less its a P43 board and I've had no problems at all.
