Gigabyte P67A-UD7 in the house

Yes i understand now i thought that you only had set slots for the various speeds i.e. 1066,1333,1600,1866,2000,ect, but it is effected by the base clock aswell then !

Just trying to get as much info as i can so i dont waste money on ram that it cant run really, so i guess i would be ok with ddr2200 if i can afford it that is :)
This stuff looks the part but i guess it will be £200 ish http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=375
thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Some benchmarks added.

Andy I am using very cheap ram in some of my testing I paid £72 for these sticks from OCUK a few months ago and they are clocking to 2133 on default no problems. Unless you are a bencher I see no point in expensive ram to be blunt.

Here is a very good performance comparison by Steven on XS forum.

Wow, nice write up mate, must have taken a long time.

I've gotten the upgrading bug recently and am very close to ordering SB -.-

What type of cooling are you running? Think I missed it in the write up.

Thats an amazing review over on xtreme, if i go this root then it will be a great guide thanks also for the tip about the ram, OCUK dont seem to have stock of the 2000Mhz Geil at the moment, but i would buy that tomorrow, i guess it was 2x2gb sticks you have

Yes indeed the are 4GB in total.

But I do have 2 x 4 GB but have not even fired them up yet. hmm that is a thought.

Thanks Andy I think the next thing I am going to do is see how this board works with different ram I have about 8 sets of ram from a spectrum of vendors. Both 2GB modules and 4GB.

Why are they bundling the old light blue coloured SATA cables with this new board :S
New colour scheme for the board but old coloured cables hardly fills you with confidence on a new product.

Performace fills me with confidence with a product not the colour of the SATA cables. :D

I would not have minded a nice set of black cable and gold connectors to be honest. :)

Ordered my ram , going for some ripjawx 1866 (8.9.8.24) 8 gig kit !
just need the board and processor now , also got a new waterblock to fit 1156 hope its the same dimensions for 1155.

It seems it was just the early batches that came with the light blue SATA cables as I have seen reviews and other pics of the bundles and they are all black. So not so bad.

Oh I can't wait for this beast to arrive! I know what you mean Andy about the RAM. The stuff I'm going to use is the 1156 Ripjaw Series, you know, the stuff that's metallic blue and went well with the 1156 blue Gigabyte boards. Lol, talk about colour coordination...

Well it will be a contrast anyway ! just need my mobo, processor and ram to sell now to help with the funds.
I dont think it will give me that much more than my x58 setup but well im bored and need a new challenge

Andy from a benchmarks point of view - this chipset and these processors are re-writing the record books. Not bad for a mainstream product.

Great i hope so , been a hard choice but now i am committed to go for it. so i guess in a week or so i will be with you :)

what do you think will be safe volts for a 2600K under a decent water block as i have bought an Apogee™ XT.

You are talking to a bencher here remember Andy. Do you mean 24/7?

My UD7 and SB CPU are only switched on when I am testing or benching as is/are all my kit. My 24/7 systems are very boring.

But to answer your question - if you are going for 5GHz 24/7 then you will need 1.440 Vcore. That will be rock solid. Good water cooling - not some rubbish kit made from a baked beans tin can and a stolen fish tank pump. Actually you can use a good air set up too and your temps will be fine.

Once you get past that 50 multi and into the power hungry zone then temps sky rocket I must say. I have been lucky with mine. But other folks (again other boards) have had nightmare stories of upper 90's - I really think that the power delivery of the UD7 is responsible for the stable overclock. From a electronics point it makes sense. Clean, stable current supply is critical to the health and well being of any system.

Hi I have same board and cpu as you, regardless of memory "1600MHZ", what settings would I need to change from stock bios settings to get stable 4.6-4.8GHZ, i.e voltage/BLCK/Multipler, not really done much overclocking but need a fast cpu for video editing and encoding

Install Easytune6 then simply use the OS based options to over-clock your system. That way all will be done automatically for you.

If you want to spend more time once you have your stable 4.6 GHz then you can work at lowering the voltages one notch at a time.

As simple as that with this motherboard.

Please bare in mind that not all CPUs are equal. For example my CPU is not a particularly good one at all.

Hi , i have my board and cpu arriving on Monday "cant wait", if i want to connect my drives in raid 0 which ports are they best on?
And what do i enable in bios, like which controller for the fast ports. Thanks
