I've got a Gigabyte P965DS3 what the fastest cpu I can plug in it?

It'll take a Q6600 without any issues.

It should also run the new E8*00 range via a beta BIOS, tho they're not officially supported. Might be better opting for one of the E6*00 or E6*50 range.

Yup, this board will take a Q6600 with no problems. The only issues I had with it was trying to get it to run with 4 sticks of Crucial Ballistix, it didn't like it too much but others have it running 4 sticks with no issue at all so maybe it was a one off board.

If you have the rev 3.3 board then you can run 1333 FSB CPUs. May require a BIOS update but would have thought you would be fine without.

Mine runs fine as in sig with the FSB up to 1600Mhz

I to had issues running 4 sticks of RAM, so swapped them out and now have 2x2GB

I have a P965DS4 which is very similar to yours. The revision on mine is 1.0 and I have issues at bootup with a Q6600. I updated my BIOS to F10 and F11H to see if that would help.
Everything was fine with an E6600 but when I changed to the Q6600, whether at defaults or clocked, the system will power cycle several times before POSTing.
