Hi Guys,

Im having issues with installing Vista onto my new Velociraptor HDD. Vista states that the HDD is not a suitable boot device. Any idea's as to what it could be. Im obviously missing a setting in the bios but not sure what it could be?

Ive also tried it with an old 74gb raptor and still no joy. A normal 500gb seagate installs fine?

Thanks in advance :)

Edit:

Exact wording during install: This computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the computers bios menu?

Tried switching it to the other sata controller? dunno about your motherboard but 6 of my sata ports are controlled by the Intel controller and 4 by Gigabyte's own one

Also I assume you formatted the partition etc from advanced drive options during install?

yeh I had the same issue couldnt even format it using the standard method in vista, you have to go through disk management. You will see the drive in there, just create a new partition and then format it and you should be good to go.

If you dont already have an os install, easy method is to get hold of an xp install disk, wait until you get to the bit where you are chossing to install, it will see the new drive as raw just format it in there, close down the xp install and install vista should have no problem then

Thanks for the replies. It turned out that It didnt like me trying to do a fresh install with my raid array plugged in. I had to install Vista x64 and then intall the raid drivers afterwards instead of during the install.
