Hello all
Right, everythings built so I tentatively powered up - no explosion, which is nice.
But I notice that a row of LEDs on the mobo stayed on. I checked the manual to see what they were, and they're Overclock LEDs. Apparently the higher the cpu overclock, the more of these LEDs illuminate. Well I've only just put things together, nothing is overclocked, yet ALL of these LEDs were illuminated!
Any idea what's going on here?

Secondly, my wireless usb keyboard was sufficiently recognised during POST to choose which bios screen to open, but then when I wanted to use the up/down keys to select first boot device, nothing happened. I tried other keys and it was as if my keyboard was suddenly not recognised. Hmmmm.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Thanks littlepuppy, I'm sure I've got an old ps/2 keyboard around somewhere.
Why is this though? And it is odd that my present keyboard was 'partially' recognised - I would've thought it would be one or the other.

But I'm probably more concerned about the Overclock LED issue. Any idea what's going on with them?

Thanks

The UD5 resembles a Christmas tree, doesn't seem to be any way to change this. I wouldn't worry about it. My board is covered with lights at stock or overclocked, I think it turns every one of them on while posting.

Regarding keyboard, find the option to enable usb keyboard in the bios, it's fairly obvious but clearly difficult to select. Use the PS/2 one briefly is probably the easiest option.

I thought the LEDs lit up all the time, but will go from green to orange to red dependent on the OC of the components they represent?

Must read the manual for mine one day... :D

Really JonJ678 - I shouldn't worry?
Do you know the LEDs I mean? They're the vertical row in the top right corner of the mobo.
Yes, everything lights up at first, but these remain lit and I'm kind of reluctant to just ignore them - they might be trying to tell me I'm in peril!
As it is I'm a little nervous to turn on again, I don't want things to fry/saute/flambe!
Any ideas?

Hi ChileanLlama
The manual says:
"The onboard CPU overclock LEDs indicate on which level the CPU is overclocked. The higher the overclock level, the more the number of lighted LEDs"
Slightly ropey grammar aside, it does suggest to me that an unoverclocked CPU should result in the LEDs being off - or at least most of them.
Hmm... I just dont know!

Take a look at section 1-9, page 25 of the manual or download it here : http://europe.giga-byte.com/FileList/Manual/motherboard_manual_ga-ex58-ud5(p)_e.pdf

It tells you what each one does. Off means they are in "normal" state and the colours they will change to based on different conditions, such as temperature.

If they are all staying on, particularly if they are red/amber then you need to look at the settings urgently.

Wait!
I'm a foetid imbecile!
These lights aren't the cpu overclock LEDs... they're the Phase LEDs they indicate the level of cpu loading!
Sorry folks.
But even so... should they all be on?
Also, the manual goes on to say 'to enable this function, please first enable Dynamic Energy Saver Advanced'
I haven't enabled anything, so is this odd?
Oh, I'm sure I'm just being twitchy, overcautious and idiotic!

RTFM ;)

Bottom of page 38, then follow that to page 86...stop worrying!!!

Just because you've not enabled something, it doesn't mean it isn't enabled by default :)
