hi all,

i'm going to be ordering this with an i7 920 and an undecided ram kit.

i'm going to watercool cpu and gpu, along with the northbridge (and by proxy southbridge, and mosfets via heatpipes). i've had a hunt around and found that, due to me using 1/2" hose, i've got the problem with the NB block built onto the board having 3/8", non-removable barbs.

i've found what looks to be the thing to use instead, a MIPS x58 block that replaces the stock one, which still allows cooling of the other components via the heatpipes. i can't link, as the place i found it is a competitor, but in the product description, it states its for the gigabyte x58 EXTREME board only; compared, it looks the same as the ud7, but a few different pci-e ports (4x instead of 1x). would this be compatible?

also, i know it's the mobo section, but i might as well ask in here to have multiple threads open:

what ram would work best with this setup? i'd been looking at http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-201-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1392 and was wondering if this would be overkill? i kinda don't want to spend that much on ram, but if it allows me to hit 4.5GHz, i'd be chuffed :)

so, kit that will be used with this:

heatkiller cpu waterblock
radeon 5970 (ek fullcover block)
corsair hx1000 psu
raid 0 HD's

many thanks in advance :)

I'm fairly sure that the MIPS fusion block will be compatible with the UD7 as they have the same cooling system as the extreme, though to be 100% sure you should check with the Gigabyte forums.

As for that RAM, if you've got the cash, then those are meant to be really great modules, in saying that though, you don't need 2000MHz DIMM's to hit 4.5GHz.

awesome stuff, i'll be ordering the MIPS and the rest of the gear today, with the exception of the ram.

now, i've been having a look; and i reckon i'll go for either of these:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-038-GS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1389

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-168-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1389

the g.skills have pretty good latencies in comparison to the corsair, and are cheaper, but i've always used crucial or corsair and am a bit skeptical about the g.skills... can anyone vouch for them?

again, many thanks :)

Im pretty sure most of the board is the same but the mosfets are different. I read EK has said that there mostfets for the extreme wont fit the UD7 but will have blocks out soon to fit all. Im not really sure its even worth watercooling for overclocking as the heatsinks are decent enough. For looks of course it would be.

i'm not getting a block for the mosfets, just one that sits on the NB, but cools the mosfets/SB via heatpipes that run to the northbridge, so it's just 1 block for the lot essentially :)

no, the only thing i'm removing is the stock waterblock that gigabyte provide, underneath that is the heatpipe assembly, which you attach the new block onto.

i found on the gigabyte forum someone using the exact block i've ordered, with the ud7, so i know it works :)

Still have the silent hybrid heatpipe?

Hi I just wanted to ask if you still have the Hybrid silent heatpipe kit that came with the board and if you are willing to sell it. Apparently it's hard to get and since you have opted for watercooling I thought maybe you might still have it around. If anyone else is reading this thread and has one availiable please let me know! Thanks.
