Gillette Fusion Vs Wilkinson Sword Quattro

Used a Quattro this morning and it's so much nicer on my neck than the Fusion. :)

If I could afford it I would probably get Merkur.

Pays for itself soon enough.

New Merkur = ~£30
Pretty good Badger Brush = ~£20

Since they'll last you the rest of your life, that averages out at around £1 per year. A bar of nice shaving soap cost around a Fiver and will last you a couple of years. Blades themselves are where the real saving emerges - even the high quality feather blades can be had for around 25p each, which is £13 a year if you use a fresh one every week.

All told, you're looking at around £15 a year.

For comparison fusion cartridges are at least £1.50 each. If you change cartridges every fortnight (as recommended) that's £39 a year. Plus you'll probably use at least a fivers worth of canned shaving goo.

Basically going Merkur pays for itself in 20months. Over a 50 year lifetime you're looking at saving £1400 AND getting a better shave to boot.

I have both and hate the blade prices so stubbornly find I can get away with using Gillette mach3 blades for much longer. The quattros just get clogged so easily after one shave being closer together. It does cut a bit finer and is my preference over the two, but still...gillette for me.

Gillete fusion ProGlide is by far the best razor I've ever used.

I don't know why people are saying the Bics are so good, maybe it's just my skin but they give me big itchy rashes.

Quattro Titanium Precision...

I shave my entire head except for the goatie & the blades last a hell of a lot longer for me & is much more comfortable than the Fusions.

Wilkinson Sword Hydro launched last week, you'll currently find it in Tesco and Boots with other retailers following soon.

American TV ad

The advert shows the skin guards and the gel reservoir, but doesn't show the flip trimmer.

Had some great feedback on it already from consumers who have written into us :)

Which shaving foam/soap/gel/oil would you suggest for somebody with sensitive skin?

I've been using some sort of Gillette goo and its just terrible with my King of Shaves razor.

Cheers.

Pick up some shave cream, brands I know off the top of my head are:

  • Natural Shave Company (think this is in Boots, they are stock in some Tesco's but not sure if they list their cream)
  • Dermalogica - Expensive but you'll get a massive tub of the stuff
  • Wilkinson Sword Hydro Shave Cream - Available at Boots

Shave cream provides more lubrication which is good for sensitive skin, the downside is it can block blades if you're using with a razor that has close blades.

Why do you shave with King of Shaves? The product quality is really hit and miss, take a look at the bottom of the 4 blades on the head of some of the cartridges. You'll find a lot of them have irregular blade spacing versus the spacing between the other blades.

My old housemate used to use King of Shaves and I told him he'll get a poor blade sooner or later and sure enough, he came out of the bathroom morning and his neck was bleeding everywhere.

I told him to look at the blade, and sure enough the last blade was all over the place!

Thanks very much, will have a mosey in the local boots when I pop into town.

I don't remember why exactly I chose King of Shaves, probably because my razor one broke (dropped it) and I needed something else fast.

Would like to invest in a Merkur but I simply can't afford it at the moment, while this one does the job well enough.

Merkur... one of the crowd. But, honestly, a proper razor's savings are worth it's wait in gold

After similar faffing about with a KoS Azur, I bought a Merkur 32C well over a year ago with a variety pack of blades. I've still got 2 packs of blades to finish.
You don't need anymore than one sharp blade to shave with let alone 3-5 and silly lubricating strips.
