A good friend of mine drives a Corsa, its pretty horrendous, windy windows, no aircon, cheap crap plastic interior..

She used to have a Civic 1.6 with sport trim but she wasnt happy on its fuel consumption and had the idea to swap it for a 1.0l corsa... A straight swap...

That was her stupidest move and she regretted it ever since.

However now she wants an Aygo or 107 and says in response to my Fiesta/Focus idea..

"fords suck man! 107 and aygo are exactly same both toyota parts so just lookin for best deal, my insurance goes down, they're 29 quid a year tax and 61mpg thats all i need man, and i don't need a boot really :) focus' are good but will cost same to run as my poor civic :("

I explained how tiny these Aygos are, and how Im sure she would regret such a small car when she is going to and from the stables for her horse.

What should she be looking at for a small cheap to run motor?

It doesn't matter what she should be looking at. If she wants a 107 or an Aygo, that's what she will get. Women's minds aren't easily changed when it comes to cars.

Fixed.

Tell her to find one andtake it for a test drive. Drag her there if you have to. Plus, where will she keep the muddy boots (Read: covered in **** and ****)
if it doesn't have a boot?

I think this is probably true. Shes test drove a 107 on sunday and "Liked it".

Think ill be fighting a losing battle eh?. Shame people dont realise theres better options

If it's only a friend, make sure she does not finance it a stupid way, then let her get on with it.

Just let her get on with it, women fail to see logic and inevitably just base their decisions on nothing more than just wanting one.

Ill just leave her to it then lol. Shes seen the 107 for £4000, i think she will probably end up buying it anyway.

No doubt will get trashed driving to and from the stables.

I was recommending decent cars with the fiesta / focus idea though right?

I've got a friend who sold his focus for one of these and he really likes it, mind you he has got a bike for the weekends. They serve a purpose and that seems to fit her criteria and as said before you won't change her mind just help make sure she buys a decent one.

Bah, spending thousands to save 2 tenners per month on fuel . One of my classmates is selling his (old) celica ( in which he has pumped quite a lot of money: Full respray + bits n bobs), adding a couple of thousand, and getting an aygo, convinced he'll save the money within a couple of month because ''omg it's tax free and fuel efficient and cheap to insure''. Not only that but he is trying to convince me they're quick and that he'll outrun both my Volvo and my Mitsubishi in a sprint .

If she wants a new car anyway then there is nothing wrong with going for the Aygo to save money over the course of ownership of that particular vehicle. If she's doing it to save money overall then it's false economy unless she keeps the car for ages and covers plenty of miles.

My Girlfriend's Mum has a C1 and it's fine for what she needs and has pretty much the lowest running costs of any car you could buy.

Which generation Focus/Fiesta did you recommend? 3K-3.5K will get a very good 1.25 2002-2008 (Mk6?) Fiesta, but the insurance is a lot more expensive if you're high risk and the fuel economy is considerably worse. Tax is a little bit worse.

Also if she doesn't need the extra room, she doesn't need it. If she needs to move any substantial amount of stuff then she can hire a van or borrow someone else's car.

Lastly, when you think about, how frequently do you need to cart around more than 3 passengers or even any passengers at all? Cars this size are fine the vast majority of the time so long as comfort/refinement isn't an issue.

Didn't Aygos suffer from the sticky accelerator pedal issues that plagued Toyota this year?

Yes we all know it's sorted now but maybe you can use that to put her off.

If she thinks Fords suck, suggest a Mazda 2?
