Girl car advice. Im against her Aygo idea..

If she insists on getting a small car then she could consider a Fiat Grande Punto. It's probably slightly bigger than the Aygo and 107, and for £4k she may be able to get one still under manufacturers warranty.

Will be slim pickings at <3 years old for no more than £4k but it is possible. Problem is it sounds like she wouldn't consider one as they 'only' do about 45 mpg.

TBH unless she does a lot of motorway driving the Aygo/106/C1 will probably do the job. Also if she does follow your suggestion it will be your fault when it doesn't get the quoted mpg or something breaks on it :p

The Aygo's don't have the Toyota build "quality", end of story. They're horrific. My mate's dad bought one after having a 107 which leaked. The Aygo now leaks as well. Which isn't great since we live in Scotland!

I'm just going to throw this out there: Fiesta Econetic. She can take her £20 road tax and 61mpg and have no road tax and 76mpg instead :P

My colleague bought an Aygo on my advice.

Well, I say my advice. She said was she was going to look at a Red Honda Jazz for sale up her street, and I gave my approval.

The next day she turns up in a Red Aygo. Yes, the car she went to look at. Clearly, model and make were of less significance than the colour.

You cannot win.

Why cant people on here accept that to a huge number of people a car is just a means of getting to work in as cheap a way as possible without having to use the bus or train?

She wants to get to work, a Aygo is cheap, it costs sod all to run and it will keep her dry.
Thats is all she is bothered about.

+1. I didn't even bother trying to get my girlfriend to buy a decent car (well ok I did but gave up very quickly after realising it was fruitless). She wants a 206, and will no doubt end up buying a 206.. after all her friend has had one for the last year and confirms that it is indeed a good car

I recently sold my Aygo, bought it brand new 4 months ago and didn't like it TBH. My insurance was higher than when I owned a faster and much more expensive car and I struggled to get 50MPG out of it...it's alright them saying you can get over 60MPG but if you come to a steep hill then forget it, you'll be screaming up in 2nd gear.

They also have well known (and very common) problems with the boot leaking (a Google search will reveal zillions of hits) and clutch going at 20k miles. There are better alternatives IMO, Suzuki Splash or KA Studio are the two that I'd consider personally.

Would a Nissan Micra not be a worthy contender? Decent 1.2 and 1.4 16v chain drive engines, economical, reliable, quirky 'cute' styling that appeals to girls? Cheap to buy and run, easy to drive and park, and reasonable boot. Probably cost less than Aygo, and will be very easy to sell on. Look for an Ascenta model and it will have aircon, bluetooth CD with built in hands-free system as well.
