any good PCIx card will come with an adaptor so you can hook the 6 pin PCIx connector to a standrd molex.
Agreed, I used my enermax 550w with an adapter which came with my connect 3d x800gto (flashed to 16 pipes). Although that PSU is now on the recommended list for ATI or Nvidia single card operation (cant remember which list).

yes but the psu in question is only 350watt, look at the picture in the first post for the specs, it probably won't handle it. What if it goes lunar and takes a few components with it?

edit I've just check the ATI site, could not find anything with the 1600 power requirements, Seven if you get stuck for replies on this thread. Start a new one asking the power requirements of the 1600.

Seven there's loads of cards on this page here (ATI),

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_X1300___X1600_Series_708.html

Your psu does concern me however, most of those cards seem (at first approximation) to be devoid of a pci-e power connector. If any of the guys here know any better I'm sure they'll chip in.

The other option is to ring OCUK tech dept, and ask them about a card you can pick out from that list, tell them your psu specs. I'll do a search over at the ATI site to see what the power requirements are for the 1600 card at the bottom of that link.

Come on guys, soemone must know something that'll perform ok with those games. Unfortunatley I have 2 1900's in Crossfire, so my knowledge of the lower cards is very limited.

I wouldn't waste your money on anything in that budget range. I have no idea what kind of performance levels they are, some of them I suspect would be close to the card u have already.

Possibly the x1600 maybe close to the x800gto in performance but then, why would it need less power to do so?

To prevent crashes related to weak PSU, I think just about everyone in this thread recommends a new PSU; and remember a PSU is for life not just for one upgrade! :)

well she's got 19.5 amps available on that rail, it'll be shared for the whole system, so it's imperative that we know the load of the gpu before suggesting a card. From what I know those older Epsilons were not great, my concern is that it might go up the wrong way.

edit would agree though, the performance will not bulldoze the 6200 her other half already has in that pc, could lead to dissapointment. It's one of those issues where you have to upgrade 2 components at the same time rather than one. It's the norm these days, even I had to upgrade from my Seasonic S12 600w, to a Tagan 900w to get the overhead I needed for my system to be unconditionally stable. If you upgrade to a really good psu now it won't be out of date like the rest of the components will in a year, it should last for a long time.

I know what! Ask the BF/ fiancee/ husband if he would rather have a current generation card and new PSU or would he rather old technology/ cut-down neutered card with it just barely able to run on the current psu.

K, Im stepping out of this thread for a bit, no more "Marry Me" requests plz, and Im not looking at the moment. ;)

Seven don't go their with the case, it'll lead to a typical cash spiral.

I'll have a closer look at the case pic you posted.
