Girl Spends £250 on facebook

On the developer forum for an application i use on my iphone there's so many angry parents whos kids buy 'app money' with 'real money' here's some posts:

Surely it should ask you for your itunes password.... What if someone stole your iphone and then made a load of these transactions, you'd end up with a rather large bill...

Not really. how was he to know he was being charged by game where you buy cloths. Unless it has the prices beside the cloths and says its about to charge you that is.

****

He should have read the instructions. It's not like the game can just fleece your bank account without telling you.

You buy the game currency with paypay, and then spend it in game. The process is no different to buying anything else off the net.

Stupid is as stupid does.

It does but if you have recently bought a free/paid from the appstore, it temp saves your password, so free roam for 30 mins or so!

One pack in the game which allows you to buy more animals for your zoo costs £59.99...

@Dmack.. I think the point the guy complaining about Tap Zoo was making, was his kid was buying items on the iPad, (micro transactions), and not getting a password prompt. Nothing to do with buying on the pc running iTunes. I know where you are coming from, but it seems you've missed the point a bit.

That's what the parental controls are for though

So many mistakes here by the father. Then again, its only to be expected. Frankly there are too many people using computers on the internet who dont have the slightest clue what they are doing or the ways in which they should be doing things.

Reminds me of a headmistress at a school I was working at several years ago who excitedly requested the IT Manager unblock a website for her because it had just said that she had won a Laptop for being the 1000th visitor this month and she needed it unblocked to enter her details.

A Headmistress mind you....

The head of an educational establishment , educating future generations.

With multiple letters after her name.

On £95k a year.

Incredible. Some people shouldnt be allowed near PCs for the same reason I shouldnt be allowed near carpentry power tools :)

Oh I see, I think I know what you mean, where you stay logged in once you put in your itunes password. In that case getting your iphone nicked wouldn't really result in a nasty suprised unless you were very unlucky...

Why do adults spend any money on this type of crap anyhow ? I mean come on there's an option to buy points for 150 or 199 dollar, that gets you 3 or 4 premium games, why spend any dough on this piece of **** ?

I already said it. Stupid is as stupid does.;)

$199??? Thats enough to buy a damn graphics card which will come bundled with a premium game or two.

Moral of the story: Read the Ts and Cs.

At some point they logged into Facebook, the game, and Paypal. They should have known what they were doing.

this

They had to link their facebook account to their paypal account. The must have known that games on FB need this, for them to link their paypal account to it.

To hand over their laptop, knowing she was playing a game that could require real money ,with their paypal details stored in it is asking for what they've got.

No imo.

lol you have to PAY for those games and stuff? What a racket.

Cheap, simple games that are maybe on a par with mid 1980s home computer games but with better graphics are good money-makers that way. You make them free to play and then charge small amounts for almost everything. That way, people end up paying more than they would for a real game.
