As title says my girlfriend has lost her father to lung cancer a two year long battle yesterday at 6pm, he did not suffer in his last hours :(. He was only 50 years old and before the two year battle had given up smoking life can be so cruel. My heart goes out to all of his family we are all deeply shocked :(.

It is a bad thing to hear but I don't see why Christmas has anything to do with it.

Would it not ruin your christmas if your dad died just before it?

Imagine having wrapped his presents and having no-one to give them to

Christmas is a time for family to be together. It's one of the worst times to lose someone, as you will be annually mourning their loss at the same time as you would also mourn them for not being around for Christmas.

Really sorry to hear this :(.

Goodness grief could you be any more pointlessly pedantic or are you just genuinely that ignorant? Christmas is supposed to be a time of cheer and family togetherness... and her dad has just died. Anything twigged yet? You could have just posted your condolences... yet instead you say "It is a bad thing to hear but I don't see why Christmas has anything to do with it." Goodness grief man... shame on you.

Because its her favorite time of year and she is a full on christian and its her birthday boxing day thats why!

My father in law died on Boxing Day 9 years ago this year, so I understand how poignant this is. I still miss him very much and Christmas has certainly lost a lot of its sparkle for the family.

My heart really goes out to the family and our thoughts are with them.

Thankyou yermum for your kind words and everyone else its very much appreciated.

And dont worry zefan i expected a stupid insensitive comment from at least one person i just wanted to talk to someone :( .

Dam, Im sorry to hear this :( I know how much this hurts, especialy around Christmas when the family would normaly be together, I know there is not much I can do, but if either of you need to talk my email is in my trust :(

I think it's exceedingly over the mark to be calling my comment stupid or insensitive. I'm just trying to highlight that I would be distraught whether it was Christmas or not.

It's not like the first thing I'd think when my Dad dies is "oh no, Christmas is ruined".

I know it can be a very unsettling feeling to lose someone that's you've lived around for a long time and am sorry to hear it.
