So ive decided to give up smoking, a habit i have to admit i some what enjoy

i am not a heavy smoker which is lucky for me, i also have a rule, never smoke within the first 5 hours of waking up, im not sure why i do this but i believe its helped a little as its not the first thing i reach for in the mornings like some heavy smokers, its probably the main reason why i haven't become a heavy smoker too.

that said, i have had several points today where i was ready to brutally beat to death anyone who spoke to me, including the cat. upon noticing my rather dramatic personality change i went out and bought a packet of patches without looking at the dosage. i plonked one on my arm and was violently sick within an hour, upon checking the dosage i realised they were 21mg patches, i.e. for a 40 a day smoker, which i am not.

so, im now sat here, with 1 quarter of a patch stuck to my arm, not feeling quite so agitated any more but DEAR GOD AM I BORED!!! :( my games on my pc just don't seem that appealing to me, nor do the programs i usually watch and frankly im not sure what to do with myself or how to occupy myself.

im somewhat dreading going to sleep tonight as i know its going to be broken sleep from the moment i put my head down to the moment i get up in the morning :(

anyway, that's Day 1. will scribble something out for day 2 provided i haven't brutally beaten myself to death with my keyboard by then.

Good luck, I dont smoke much... and its more out of habbit than addiction, but I find it near impossible to give up because theres certain things I do that I always smoke during/after. I'd need to take a few weeks off to break the habbits, and then that prolly wouldnt work either as I smoke when I'm bored :(

Just remember how bad day 1 was. You'll only have to go through that again if you start smoking again.

Use the patches sparingly. Its doing something with your hands thats the key.

I just stopped cold turkey. Just told myself I didn't want a cig, cos why would I? I'm not a smoker.

im on day 1112 :) I still crave a cig probably at least 20 times a day

good luck though the initial few weeks are truely hardcore effort

I wasn't ever a massive smoker anyway. Was when I was drinking or after footy, stupidly enough. Run around and get all fit then have a cig straight after :/

i gave up after a visit to intensive care, was on 30-40 a day since the ripe old age of 14, gave up cold turkey too, well rather had the event forced on me really :p

hmmm... thanks for that :/
You never really stop the cravings. However, you feel a million times better for it, and it does et a lot easier over time.

I did feel a bit daft at the Essex meet when I said 'What'd you give up for, you poof?' or something similar and got that reply from you :/

haha dont be silly, im happy it happened, gave me more money for fast(ish)cars :D

After a conversation at work, I threw my cigs (is it chavish to call them fags?) in the bin and went cold turkey. Was hard for 4 days. After that it got easier. After 2 weeks I totally forgot about it and had no problems. Then I went to duty free at the airport about 6 weeks later and bought a carton and am back on them :(.

Gave up again, but laster 2 days.

Plan to keep trying tho.

I think the best thing that helped me the frist time was changing my routine. Small things like making a cup of tea when you wake up and drinking a glass of milk before bed instead of a smoke really help. And the thing about playing computer games totally true - they get real boring. A good way around this is to take breaks every 30 minutes and get a drink. Drinking a litre of water is great or a glass of OJ or something. I found I tended to eat a lot more so its a good idea to buy some healthy snacks - museli bars and dried fruits are great.

Come to think of it, I'm gonna give it another shot right now. I'll post how it goes too:

Day 1: 23:35 (30 mins without a cig) - Read some dude's thread about him quitting, decided to try it again. Immediately felt hot and bothered. Turned the heating off and am about to make some cereal. About to get all my cigs and lighters and throw them in the bin.

tried the patches but they blistered my skin(but had the weirdest and most vivid dreams ever) so now using nicotinel gum, It tastes fowl but seems to to be working at the mo.
my mate packed up 2 yrs ago, he's now only using 2 patches, gum and nasal spray daily lol
