Giving up smoking... an online diary.

tried the patches but they blistered my skin(but had the weirdest and most vivid dreams ever) so now using nicotinel gum, It tastes fowl but seems to to be working at the mo.
my mate packed up 2 yrs ago, he's now only using 2 patches, gum and nasal spray daily lol
Totally nicotine free then? ;) Allen Carr's "Easy Way To Stop Smoking" sorted it for me. I read the book 3.5 years ago and haven't smoked since.

It's easy to give up smoking, I've done it loads of times :p

Well the last time was March 1990 and I was a heavy smoker. I have asthma now which I may never have had if it wasn't for smoking. I'd say if you can give it up now you will be thanking yourself in the years to come.

Good luck :)

I stopped a couple of months ago now, I cant remember exactly how long its been, I posted in a thread on here at the time so im sure I could work it out though. I dont agree with what some people have said that the cravings never stop, I very rarely think of smoking now, really the only time I do is when I have someone close by smoking, it stinks!

Keep it up though, like people have said, you will feel much much better for it, and the extra money you will have will be an added bonus.

Edit: Just found the thread and it looks like I stopped around half way through August so around 3 months now!

I quit once or twice for 6-12 months at a time but kept starting again, removed. I have quit for good now, a collapsed lung made sure of that. If you smoke quit now, I wish I had. Having a lung collapse isn't very nice. It happened to me three times within a 2 week period. I thought I was having a heart attack when it first happened, thats how bad it was. And I'm only 24 years old, I am vastly better now and hope to get back to 100% soon but some people never do, I do 7 miles every other day on my bike(cardio vascular training) And hope to get back into weights training in a month or two. If you smoke quit while your ahead, thats the only advice I can give you.

im on day 1112 :) I still crave a cig probably at least 20 times a day

good luck though the initial few weeks are truely hardcore effort
Jaysus, if I was still craving them that much after 3 years, I'd wonder was it worth the grief

i commend you for your efforts Locutus.

CryptKeeper, you should be bloody ashamed of yourself.

dude i was in the exact same place as you removed. I gave up on sunday, yes it was hard but i have no more cravings just mental habbits. It is well worth giving up, just with the money you save.

I have quit for 2 1/2 years now and the best advice I can give is pack in in a way which fits your personality.

An example of this for me was that I easily get bored and so cold turkey never worked (must have tried it loads of times).

I am a firm believer that it is mind over matter and as long as you want to quit and for the right reasons (not just because you think you should) you are for more likeley to succeed.

I have also tried NRT on several occasions but gound this difficult as I was just telling myself I was getting the nicottine any way all be it in a different form and so it didnt help me.

My 3 most successful attempts including this one have been through the alan carr book (1st "Successfull" time) and twice now through hypnosiys (1st attempt gave up for 1 year and currently in second hypnosis attempt)

I think Hypnosis helps with my theory that you have to be ready and want to pack in for the right reasons as it prepares your mind for what is ahead.

Hypnosis isnt for everyone I have known friends and colleagues onw of whom lit up 1 hour after the hypmosis session but I am a firm believer as it seems to have worked for me.

The difficulty of giving up smoking is that you have only given up since your last cagarette and in the ast 2 1/2 years I have had a cigarette on about 5 occasions when drunk and luckily have felt so sick the day after that I havent wanted another.

Best of luck with it because the benefits are huge in the pocket, health and how ever many other ways.

So ive decided to give up smoking...
Nice one. Good luck with it matey.

I quit on Sunday October 29th and I haven't had a cigarette since October 30th. No patches, no gum, no hypnotism - will power alone.
I've been finding it pretty easy so far, though the end of last week was a bit of a struggle. I think the fact that I smoked rollies helped at there's far less chemicals than in straights.

So, currently quitting we have;

Stick with it guys, we can do it!

I once gave up and held it for 3 months. Spose i wish i had been able to keep it up, i am weak. :D

YOU ARE A STRONG CONFIDENT WOMEN!

Much of the time i smoke, its purely `cos i can, or im bored. You need to train yourself that you dont even need it.

I seriosuly found chewing gum useful, just gives you something to do while everyone else lights one up. That and twidling a pencil in your smoking hand.

I think ill try to quit again soon, theres many things i need to sort out in my life... Might aswell do them all at once.

One year, ten months, two weeks, one day, 23 hours, 52 minutes and 58 seconds. 13699 cigarettes not smoked, saving £3,308.52. Life saved: 6 weeks, 5 days, 13 hours, 35 minutes. (based on £4.85 a packet which is what they were then).

3rd time for me, first I lasted 3 years, second 2 weeks. This feels like the time.
I smoked 20 a day for 20 years :(
Cold turkey worked this time and the first time. Nicotine gum wasn't much use to me on my second attempt to quit.
Allan Carrs book is probably the best and cheapest quitting aid that you can buy.
I don't get cravings at all, first few weeks are tough then it gets simpler. Avoid situations where you normally smoke for a while.

DAY 2 PART1 The Morning

woke up feeling uber rested... how odd. my sleep was very broken up but dear god did i feel nice in the morning... usually i wake up feeling like ive been hit by a truck. only downside was when said cat jumped on the bed and flopped her ass in my face. off to work, more later if i survive.

Friday Morning 11:30 - 12 hrs since I quit

I woke up in the morning and had forgot about smoking. I usually go straight for a cig. Went on my pc and remembered about this thread. Going to go to tescos for Lunch soon, will pick up lots of healthy snacks and drinks.

I think one of the problems I had is I always smoked menthols. Subconsciously (sp?) I think I was addicted to the niccotine etc, but consciously I told my self it was the menthol. I've got a bunch of airwaves chewing gum to help.

I'm worrying about what to do after meals, as I usually have a smoke then. It is the most tempting time to smoke. Anyone have any advice on this?
