Giving up smoking... an online diary.

Day 3:

not quite so bad tonight, seems to be the night times that are the worst. i slept terribly last night and was utterly knackered today :( i have to admit i miss it terribly though, i havent played a computer game for a while either, somehow without smoking it doesnt interest me as much.

Day 3 +48 hrs

Today was a lot easier that yester. Still very hard to keep going though. I'm munching a lot. Keep getting up and going through to the kitchen for no apparent reason. I'm a lot more on edge and feeling a bit more stressed. I know it will get easier and I really think I can do it this time.

Day 1 1hr

I had my 'last' ciggarette about an hour ago. Just eaten something so if I hadn't 'stopped' I would probably go for a smoke now but obviously not suffering too much at this stage.

Feel a bit nervous at the moment but also a bit more hopefull and confident of success than at other attempts.

I hope the other escapees keep posting to this thread as I think it will probably help our chances.

your first day is going to be a nightmare, go out and buy some patches they take the edge off quite a bit. ive also found digging out my weights bench helps with the stress.

Day 4 +60hrs

Still going strong. This morning was a lot easier. I started having that actimel stuff, and I think thats helping too. Still having moments when I feel like have a cigarette, but they are certainly getting less and less. I think my sense of smell and taste is returning or something. Its really weird and hard to expain.

im got a steak to eat today... should be nice :D

i had a delicious tasting milk shake earlier too :D

I think its day 5 now but I'm doing ok. Still getting "the urge" about 5 times a day, but not giving into it and seem to be getting better at forgetting about it. Have yet to go out drinking but confident the no smoking in bars thing in Scotland will help out a lot.

I've never been a smoker and never had to give up, but a mate always said that you feel worse giving in and smoking than you feel whilst giving up.

Just something to bear in mind. It's nice to see your attempt has sponsored another almost immediately!

Well thats 1 week now and still going strong!

I'm amazed how much easier it has gotten since day 1 (nightmare).

So far I've save over £25 I reckon. Probably spent about an extra £15 on drinks and food, but I don't seem have those cravings anymore now so its all good.

I strongly suggest everyone else give it a go. :)

Hehe. Its a really interesting thing to do. Can't say its a good idea but if you want to try it I can't stop you.

The problem is you have to want to give up. If you find yourself really enjoying it then after a month you may not want to give up and there is nothing you can do. After 2 months you often get out of breath quite easily.

It'll be 4 months for me now. I quit using Zyban and the extra help of nicorette inhaler and gum.

I initially started on patches, but they just didnt work for me, the cravings didnt really go and I cheated. Went to the docs, went on Zyban, sold the patchs :D and now i'm clean.

It's a 2 month course on Zyban, but I only stuck to it for a month cause after that I kept forgetting to take them and figured that if I wasn't missing them then what was the point of taking them.

I still miss having a puff, REALLY miss it (but only when I think about it). But I dont crave it. I hate being around people smoking, really annoys me, partly cause i'm jealous and partly cause it stinks.

Stay positive mate you'll do it if you want to, and thats the key, you HAVE to want to quit. For me my incentives were that I was getting married and promised my wife that I wouldnt smoke when we we're married, and secondly cause I couldn't afford it anymore. Those 2 reasons were enough for me to quit for good.

Download the silkquit program if you already havent, it's great incentive to see how many you haven't smoked and how much money you'd have saved.

Well ive been trying to give up all year  and i dont seem to be able to do it but looking at this thread i`m going to give it another go,so tomorrow is going to be my first day wish me luck, going cold turkey this time :)

Dont go cold turkey. If you've been trying for a year, you need extra help. Goto the doctors and see the smoking advisor. Either use patches or Zyban, tbh zyban is the quickest way to get over the addiction because you immediatly stop the intake of nicotine.

Cold turkey will be painful and miserable, dont be so hard on yourself. GO GET HELP!!!.

i'd go against this advice, do go cold turkey, it's the best way, it's the only way i managed it becasue with NRT you are still getting nicotine - the substance you are addicted to - into your bloodstream. I tried patces / gum etc and sill failed, then went cold turkey and haven't smoked for 1 year 4 months.

Thats all well and good if you have the willpower to do it. Some people dont though and seeing as he said that he's been trying for a while, it'd suggest to me that he needs help and i'd advise (personal opinion only) Zyban.
