suspended? see what stopping does to you!

DAY 12:

despite the infuriating inferiority complex of those that must be obeyed, I still havent resumed smoking, although at various times i have reeeeeally wanted to.

on a more interesting note, my health has now suffered dramatically as a result of NOT smoking. I am constantly tired, always stressed, the slightest draft and i start to shiver, and also the most annoying thing is i now wake up between 4:45 and 5:15 A.M. every day, regardless of how tired i am or what time i go to bed, (i tried staying up untill 2 a.m. to see if it would help... nope) tried nytol, didnt help, tried going to bed drunk... didnt work either. it wouldnt be so bad if i could actually get back to sleep once i have woken up but i cant.

Right another one, (me) joining the club of giving up.

I am 35, smoked since 18, roughly these days around 15 per day. Lots of reasons I want to give up, including cost, never liked myself smoking. Smell. Also ran upstairs the other day and was out of breath. Sod that!! and also went to my local shop, got a loaf of bread went to pay and lady at the counter turned round and got me my normal packet of 20 fags. I hated that. That she would associate me with "oh he is here for his fags" and knows what i smoke.

So ripped them all up last night. threw away ashtray, (but only ever smoked in garage and outside and that is in my own house).

have some Nicorette products for if I should need them.

See how it goes. Good luck everyone else with giving up. Yes I enjoyed it, but I think I have had my "time" with it.

This is encouraging – seems there are a few of us giving up the smokes.

I’m on day 8 with patches and find I’m fine until about 3 or 4 in the afternoon when I really, I mean really, could use a smoke. This lasts the whole evening right up to falling a sleep.

The trouble then is staying asleep but I was warned this could be so with the patches. Mind you, my sleep patterns have always been crap anyway.

I’m with Locutus12 with the tiredness but I’m not constantly stressed although I have my moments of growling at people and just having a bitch.

33 years I have smoked and my wife 30. Both of us are going for it and it helps to have another “sufferer” around, as we can be supportive when it gets heavy.

The usual reasons apply for giving up plus I got diagnosed with M.E. a few weeks. I thought I’d be dammed if I’m going to sit back and vegetate in a cloud of smoke. Then one of my sons started so I said this has got to stop.

Best of luck all.

i recommend anyone who is trying to quit nicotine to go to www.whyquit.com
worked for me, but everyone is different.
Clean for 2+ years now, saved over £6000 and dont miss my old nicotine addiction one bit :D

well 33 hours since last fag, feel ok i guess. Everynow and then I think oh ill have a fag and then remember oh i have stopped.

woke up about 4 times last night though. Seems strange. But ill give it my best shot.

Day18

veeeeeery stressful day :(

i admit i had 1 at my step brothers today but before you all moan at me listen to this...

i felt ill! very very ill! lol, which i am sure is an excellent thing. i had a crisp £20 note in my pocket, and an off licence next door to him which i could have gone round and bought some... but i didnt :D i didnt even have the compunction to which was really nice.

i will admit i am still missing it every so often :( im just hoping that that feeling will go after a few months.

so in total i have had 1 in 18 days and no sign of a repeat performance. :) not a perfect track record but not bad after 5 years of constant smoking.

DAY 3 for me and not had any, have the urge now and then though of course. Just eat / drink.

So far, im ok, restless nights though when i go to bed

well this thread does nto seem to be updated much...

I have now managed 9 days without a fag.

1st 4 days, wanted one all the time, now I dont seem to be thinking aboiut it that much.

Feel a bit better I think.

Smoked for the last 17 years. Around 15 or so a day.

So I think I am doing well.....

Thanks for upping this thread.
wouldn't have seen it then :)

am on my 5th or 6th day. Lost count :p
went cold turkey. really really miss having a cigarette and am tempted sometimes. but I guess I didn't want to see my efforts go to waste. Maybe when I get my cravings toned down, I'll indulge myself once in a while?

Am 25 years old and have been smoking for 4-5 years. I smoke a minimum of 10 aday.
My main motivation to quit is because of £££
Have decided that I spend too much money on cigarettes and looking to use that money elsewhere. eg. more toys!!

Good luck to everyone and keep it up!

20 days without one as of today....Feeling a lot better, still want one now and then, but that feeling soon phazes out.

Starting with a few mouth ulcers now though, apparently that is part of the process during giving up!

But hay, thats coming on 3 weeks @ £30 per week = £90 saved thus far!

Keep up the good efforts people!

I've just hit 7 months fag-free today. Was never a big smoker but would finish off 20 ciggies a day, and then moved onto rollies of which I'd smoke 10 or so a day.

Then decided to start cutting down so stopped smoking at work, and only had a few when I got home.

Then finally decided it was time to pack it in completely so just went cold turkey one day. I was always able to go a few days without a smoke anyway so getting over the initial nicotine addiction was easy. The worst bit was the constant coughing over the next couple of months as my lungs slowly clearly all the crap out.

I can now hardly believe that I used to smoke and would never consider putting another of those evil things in my mouth again!

I highly recommend the move to rollies if you're still smoking tailors and want to quit. It seemed to decrease my need for nicotine. My dad is using the same process to quit at the moment and he feels it will be much easier giving
up after smoking rollies.
