god, how crap is killing floor!

Garyfl, first off you need to join the right type of servers as a new player, and really you should do a quick Solo game to get familiarised with the controls and general game mechanics.

You need to use the right mouse button for iron sights (they are the crosshair)

If you join Hard, Suicidal or Hell on Earth servers when you are lvl0-4 chances are people won't be too pleased. Most servers have ff off btw, but still people won't be happy if you go on those servers until you're ready for it

Play a couple games on Beginner setting. This might be kinda boring but the jump from beginner to Normal is quite large. Normal is kinda like how Hard used to be

The in game server browser is pretty bad. You might find the right difficulty servers there with the filter, but it keeps resetting. Use the steam browser and join games from there (open up KF first tho). I like "Multiplay" servers as its FF off, just join one with Beginner or Normal on its name

You need to learn the difference between each zombie. Weld nearby doors and defend an area with the team. Press 5 and heal others or yourself with middle mouse button. Look after your team and hopefully they look after you :D . Don't go running around the map until theres only a few left, then start heading to the trader

You still might not like it though as its a game designed around difficulty. You don't just win by simply taking part

KF is a good game and while the graphics arent as impressive as modern shooters they are not bad.

KF is loads of fun, personally I prefered the faster pace of L4D and especially the drunken 8v8 matches we used to hold on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

I am not bothering to try to persuade the OP to play the game. I do however disagree with his opinion and his references are all either single player games or a game that has Shell shaded characters.
