Previews/reviews coming out now, looks like a decent port on the whole:

FSR and dlss both present. Seems like nvidia or/and game developers need to do some work with dlss/motion vectors as apparently the smearing/motion issues are present, hopefully a different dlss config file will fix that though....

@TNA looks like you'll be ok with your measly 8gb 3070 too :p ;)

8 GB of VRAM are sufficient for God of War including Ultra HD. The game addresses significantly more in places, but the additional memory doesn't seem to be really needed, at least the editors couldn't find any performance or graphics problems in this case. In Full HD, 6 GB of memory on the graphics card is enough for full texture details.

How is a 3080 outpacing a 6900?

Will add this before @Nexus18 adds it .

Probably a game engine that favours nvidia?

Having said that, wasn't this sonys own in house engine? At least there doesn't seem to be any info. on it from a quick google..... If so, given the way some people go on about how all the consoles are amd powered and the games are designed for consoles first thus "benefits" translate over to pc space etc... you would think those perf. figures would be the other way round.... :p

Having said all that, given that frame latency of amd... I suspect there is some extra optimisation they can do.

Maybe they forgot to enable the magic sauce known as SAM or they need to add more vram to their cards.... :p

It's a good thing the game has no RT in it or a 3060Ti maybe beating a 6900xt too in this game. Joking apart AMD has some new drivers for this game too, not sure if that review used them ?

DOWNLOAD: AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 22.1.1

Support For
  • Monster Hunter Rise
  • God of War
    • Up to 7% increase in performance in God of War @ 4K Ultra Settings, using Radeon Software Adrenalin 22.1.1 on the 16 GB Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card, versus the previous software driver version 21.12.1.
    • Up to 7% increase in performance in God of War @ 4K Ultra Settings, using Radeon Software Adrenalin 22.1.1 on the 16 GB Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card, versus the previous software driver version 21.12.1.
    • Up to 7% increase in performance in God of War @ 4K Ultra Settings, using Radeon Software Adrenalin 22.1.1 on the 12 GB Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card, versus the previous software driver version 21.12.1.
Fixed Issues
  • Connecting multiple monitors with high display bandwidths and differences in vertical intervals to a system may lead to high idle memory clock values being experienced by some users.
  • After upgrading to the latest Radeon Software, the Power Tuning component of a saved tuning profile may not load correctly when a user imports a previously saved tuning profile.
  • When some users zoom-in during Halo Infinite gameplay, they may experience visual corruption on some AMD Graphics Products such as Radeon RX 5600 XT Graphics.
  • Flickering may be observed when playing Fortnite on some AMD Graphics Products such as Radeon RX 6800 XT Graphics using DirectX 12 with Radeon Boost enabled.
Known Issues
  • Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen to occur when enabled on some games and system configurations. Any users who may be experiencing issues with Enhanced Sync enabled should disable it as a temporary workaround.
  • Radeon performance metrics and logging features may intermittently report extremely high and incorrect memory clock values.
  • While playing Borderlands 3 using DirectX 12 with Radeon Boost enabled, longer than expected load times may be observed on some AMD Graphics Products such as Radeon RX 6800 XT Graphics.

NVM they did use the latest AMD drivers 22.1.1 and Geforce 497.29 .. so latest drivers for both until Nvidia gets the 511.17 drivers back up after they broke them for other cards apart from working on the 3080 12GB. So seems they have the God Of War optimised drivers for AMD in that computerbase review.

Wonder whether that release has the latest DLSS implementation. I overwrite 2.2 with 2.3 in RDR2 and it made a noticeable difference.

God of War offers both Nvidia's DLSS version 2.3.4.0 and AMD's competing FidelityFX Super Resolution 1.0.

Thanks, good to know it’s relatively up to date.

Am I right in thinking ps5 runs this at a locked 60fps at 4k (with checkerboarding). So I'd need around a 3080 to get similar?

Will have to see what the individual settings are like on the PS5, but if you just want to set everything to max, which should look better than the PS5, then a 3080 would manage.
