Hi guys, considering buying a full system on here ( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-043-OK&groupid=43&catid=781&subcat= )as building my last one was ok but now all this sli/dual core etc has me confussed. Ive got as far as the add to basket then it asks OS?
I have xp at the mo and totally like it after ME dissaster lol but i noticed the graphics card info says "built for Vista" Does this make a difference if i get xp? Im guessing the guys from OcUK would not give me the option to buy an os that wouldnt be suitable for the system but thought id check. Thanks for the advice in advance.

mate...build yourself a c2D or quad system! plenty of threads on here for system specs at different price ranges!

You could run with XP at the moment...using the same as before..and upgrade to Vista when the time is right for you. Vista is required for DX10 games only...and allthough there is only 1 or 2 out at the moment...the future will be DX10. Vista ready...just means it has a DX10 compatable graphics card...the 8800GTS.

Personally i'd go for Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

It allows you to up the ram at a later date to 4GB without any issues.

Its its a brand new build you could go dual boot? And as Kyle said, if your planning on 4GB Soon enough then opt for the 64 Bit edition of Vista Home Premium :)

The only reason the graphics card would say it's "Built For Vista" is simply because its an nVidia 8800 model - and as such is capable of DirectX 10 :)

DX10 is only available in Vista, and not supported in XP.

Don't worry though, the card still works fine in XP and will run using DirectX 9.

I have to agree with what Toxic said though - really think about going down the Intel route!

If your going AMD because they're the 'Current King's of Hardware' - well that really hasn't been the case for the last year or so at least.

Intel's Core2Duo's or Core2Quad's really put AMD to shame.

Either way, I'd look at using Vista Home Premium 64bit :)

Id want to stay 32bit and xp tbh for all my old games, ill wait a while for Vista to settle.

Just out of interest what "old" games are you going to be playing? Vista 64bit supports most of the older games, ive been told it doesnt run Sim City 4 and some 16bit games but otherwise you should be ok.

Battlefield one and two + SF, source, Max payne 2 , HL2, TMunited, Testdrive unlimited and xpand rally and the main ones oh and C&C3, theres a few more but i havent got round to installing them again after format.
