As the title says really, flying off to orlando on friday morning, iv been ranting on about getting a DS lite for a while now, no wmight be the best opportunity.

Is there any reason why I shouldnt pick one up while im over there. Any pitfalls etc, I know I will need a power converter but other then that. Dont know about warrenties etc, are they prone to failing.

My last visit to the states I came with a Dreamcast on there launch, that is still serving me well :)

I was in Canada a couple of weeks ago, and the prices there were about the same as the UK prices, games too. I think they were around £80 before tax (which would be around £10), but you need to buy a power cable over here, so the saving is very small.
I got my mum to check the prices before I went out, as she was working there, and came to the conclusion that I was better off buying one at home and being able to take it back to the store if I had problems.

My mate over there says he picked up a DS lite and Mario for $120, thats quite a saving I reckon.

Would I have to buy USA games only or wll any work

The prices must be significantly different in the US than Canada then. The DS games should all be region free.

Well i was looking at the river's web site (the americian one not the UK) and they have the DS lite listed for $130, i would the expect it to cost more on the streets, say $140, that is about £80, so you are saving a bit of money,

hmm, maybe not enough to warrent the extra risks should something go wrong with it.

might just hold out and hope the GF gets me one for christmas ;)

I was in the US a month ago, and the DS Lites were about $120 without games, which works out to £75 or so. It is a decent saving, but when you need to buy a power convertor, plus you factor in the problems you may have getting it fixed if it breaks, and I decided it wasn't worth the saving, so I just bought one when I got home instead.

More online than it is in the shops i always wondered why I read about American’s buying their stuff over the counter and not online.

My sentiments exactly - I would recommend you buy the console here, as you get the benefit of being able to take it back if something goes wrong.

But get all the games you can in the US/Canada as they are way cheaper, and all region free so it's all good. :D

Surprisingly enough, the old DS's were actually $150 with a copy of Animal Crossing. I was really surprised to find the Lite's to be a fair bit cheaper than the older versions.
