As I'm skint I use my 18-55 in portrait mode & panorama factory. Not as good as a real lens but it gives me 30M pixel wide shots from my 300D :)

I've been to Monkey World (in Dorset). It's really cool :). I wasn't really into photography at the time. A lot of the monkeys are behind fairly thick wire fences and you can't get too close, so hopefully you have the equipment to get some great shots still :)

One thing that that the weather makes a big difference. If it is cold or raining, they will all go into the indoors bits and the shots won't be as good.

Make sure you post pics :)

the Canon 10-22mm is the best wide lens out there, i would recommend it over the 10-20 Sigma (I have used both)

Yeah the Canon 10-22 is better than the Sigma 10-20 but the Canon lens costs £200 more.
The original poster asked for cheaper options ;)

True, but it's nearly £200 more expensive (on the site I just checked). He did ask for one that's not too dear.

EDIT - ^^^ beaten to it.
