Hello all :)

The girlfriend has a couple of goldfish, and lately one has just hit an all time low...

Seems he stays at the bottom of the tank pretty much just floating around, occasionally goes to the top, he seems to have developed some brown spots on his head also.

a lot of things seem to point towards ammonia, yet the other fish is entirely fine?

Any ideas of help that can be given is appreciated :)

Are they in a filtered tank or just a bowl? :)

The tank is filtered yes :)

And water changes are done every so many weeks.

Only thing I can think of is that it could be stress related? As the tank suddenly got really dirty a week ago, but was then cleaned pretty thoroughly....However he was down in the dumps before we changed everything...So I dunno

Thank you for the reply :)

If you suspect ammonia, get some Ammo-lock from your local pet shop and stick a drop or two in, you should also only be changing a percentage of the water, not a full change otherwise the whole biological filtration process has to start over.

Ah okay, yeah the most we've changed is 50%, although you're supposed to do around 25% now aren't you?

But i'll have a look into the blocks you said about :)...Just seems weird how one is on deaths door and the other isn't :p

Update:

Fish is now swimming around in random directions....sometimes head standing etc...Think the brown spots on his head have spread as well.

Fish are so confusing and often too much effort. Well they are at least when you spend ages looking after them and suddenly they all get hit with a nasty infection/disease and snuff it. I gave up fishkeeping after losing a load of really nice fantails and a couple of small ghost carp that i looked after fairly meticulously. Can't remember what it was that got them, but it only took a few days for them all to die. :(

I hope your GF's fish pulls through.
