He has been rock solid but imo no one has been amazing...

I can't think of a person or team this year which has been truly outstanding, they just shouldn't give it out. Otherwise it will just get common

Between Cannavaro and Zidane for me. The Italian probably edges it because he's performed in all his games.

edit: the BBC site says he's nearly 33, I could swear he was about 27.

Cannavaro would get my vote. He's been consistent throughout his career and has really shown what a top defender he is during this world cup. I was also surprised to read that he's 32 but I watched a lot of Parma when Football Italia was on Channel 4 and both Cannavaro and a 17 year old Buffon played for them. That must've been a few years ago.

Cannavaro, Zambrotta and (dare I say it) Maniche have all impressed me. I have no idea why Maniche looks so fat with all the running about he does.

I wouldn't be surprised if Zidane gets it just before he retires though.

You were watching the group stages I assume? He was a very good midfield engine for Germany imo.

Cannavaro from that list, how ballack got there i dont know he has been one of the biggest disappointments for me this tournament.

Zidane or Cannavaro...both have been playing excellent and if anything one of those 2 should get the award...i think cannavaro will sneak it but then i guess it depends on who wins the WC...italy or france??

Cannavaro. Almost unstoppable thus far.
Zambrotta. Excellent defending & attacking.
Pirlo. Shows why he iso well regarded in Italy.
Zidane. He's only had 2 good games, but was awesome in them.
