Got one of these as a hire car for work on Tuesday.
Am I going to suffer? :(

edit: this is just a jocular thread because I know half of OCUK is pro golf and the other half anti ;)

Its a golf, it will be like any other mk5 golf - ie, fairly good. This one will be rather slow but its only for a day....

at least it isn't a golf plus. My parents unfortunately got one of them as a hire car when they went to spain, my dad said it was the biggest pile of crap ever. Rubbish to drive, blind spots everywhere...

the mk5 golf basic are pretty generic and inoffensive, as far as hire cars go not bad at all really

IMO it is a big golf, not that that a golf is a small Passat as it were.

I'm not a member of the "OMG PASSATS R RUBBISH" club but for me the golf is the better car, and the Passat is a bit boring. If only for that reason I think golfs are better if you don't need the space.

Both are generic boring run of the mill rep cars. Might as well be a slightly bigger run of the mill rep car and hence have space to fit more things. Thats my opinion. Therefore i see the passat as the better car. :)

the difference between what people are allowed to do and what they actually do are sometimes different.

it is a nice car but if your on the motorway you may find the middle lane more appropriate.

once up to speed there will be no issue putting the foot down in the fast lane should it be needed.
though remember, you shouldnt sit in the fast lane unless you need to be there regardless of the speed you are doing.

Since when has the golf been a rep car?

They are hardly good motorway cruisers.

for its class the golf is an excellent motorway cruiser. The motorway is just about the only place no steering feel and loads of weight are actually helpfull.
