Golf R Estate

But anyway, moving on, it seems the Golf R is actually quite the bargain. SDK, if you've not signed the paperwork yet you may want to consider this deal:

http://www.stablevehiclecontracts.co.uk/volkswagen-golf-estate-leasing

Works out at £4k a year for a brand new Golf R Estate on 8k a year.
I also spotted that deal this morning and have set the motions to cancel my order and go for it.
Like you said; it's £4k per year vs £4.8k per year going the way I was going to go - three year depreciation.

The only I have chosen is metallic paint.

Oh, I thought you had quite high kit requirements as you mention it was the spec level of the 3/5 Series that was the issue

Given the 5 is higher spec as standard what was it that was so important you had to have it on the 5 but don't mind not having it on the Golf?

Agree with the above, the sportback is surely closer to a 5dr Golf?

edit: 1233 with the seats down for the Golf 5dr it seems (343 seats up)

Never seen the sportback as anything more than a hatch

I think it just depends if you want the space of an estate or if a 5dr hatch will do

Personally, I do prefer estates, getting old or something but the space is handy :p

Anyways, nice choice OP :)

.how much space do you need everyday that the S3 wouldn't fulfil.
- I need the option of putting at least one bike in the back without folding the rear seats down.
- Other times - four bikes, kit and gear for a weeks riding with 4 adults. Roof bars obviously used.
- Recycling center runs - I've done up to 20 trips in one day with my current car. Having an estate would cut this to about 5 trips :)

As you get older priorities change. It would be nice to have the time to vacuum the roof of my car before every trip (:p) but in he real world I'm lucky if I get time to vacuum my house.

So the golf estate is significantly larger than a 5 door golf? I've been in one as someone at work has a company car. I'd still pick the S3 sportback...how much space do you need everyday that the S3 wouldn't fulfil.

I need the extra space ALL THE TIME. My 3 series estate wasn't big enough for the day to day stuff, so the 5 series estate was bought. That still often feels a little small, so I'm looking for a Range Rover.

One hairdresser on his own might not be able to use all the space an S3 offers, but for many, it is too small.

What a daft thing to say, throw some stuff, 1+ kids, a dog into the mix and you very very quickly want more boot space than an S3 can offer. Especially if you want to go anywhere with all the above for more than a day

When I had an s3, my wife and I could fill the boot easily for a short break, longer breaks (a week plus) had stuff spilling onto the back seat. Admittedly that was a 3 door, but the sport back isn't that much bigger.

Indeed. My S3 had 2 snowboards, 4 hold-alls, sleeping bags and other winter gear in the back. But of course the seats had to go down.

Sportback is better if you have rear passengers often, but boot is nowhere near as big as an estate.
