Golf R Estate

They're way too expensive.

The idea of this car is great, but as others have mentioned, it is just so expensive.

I think it looks great (except the usual VAG 4 exhaust thing going on). Rather expensive though.

I didn't know this car existed. I think it's quite nice but when you put it beside it's competition it's surely not the greatest purchase. There are nicer looking more affordable cars which are available tomorrow.

Looks nice and pulls the 4 exhausts off better than the hatch IMO, but that price tag is a lot to swallow.
There are so many comments about the price being high.
Is there another equivalent new car (Space, spec, power and drive) on the market which is cheaper? This is costing me £4.2k a year to own.

The only car which comes close is a used S4 Avant. The facelift (May 2012) starts from £29k

The only thing that gets close is an M135i bought from a broker - very low depreciation and easily under the £4.2k a year but of course it falls flat on its face with the space argument.

Golf is going to feel like a bit of a downgrade though in some respects, the infotainment for example is fairly low rent compared to your 118i and will feel more dated. They still use basic greyscale screens for the DIS in the instrument cluster, too.

It is a shame that BMW don't offer anything like a Golf Estate unless you count the bizarre and not really the same thing 2 Series Active Tourer.

I agree 4 exhausts are unnecessary on this but people moan when the styling is dull and no different from the SE models.

No pleasing everyone :p

It's only 2 years though - just in time for the new 5 Series launch :)

I just can't imagine how that S4 got so trashed. He really plays up the 'yea its juts an old beater' line but that was an early 2013 video and it was a mid 2009 car, it's hardly old.

The standard DIS is colour with the GTI and Golf R, his Golf will get the new MIB II headunit that is very good supporting Apple Car Play and Android Auto so you can use any Nav app you want and also direct access to all the streaming music apps etc. Shame he is not spec'ing the Pro Nav as this is the only way to get the large screen.

If my calculations are right it'll go back the same month deliveries start for the new 5 Series Touring ;)

I can't wait to see what this is like. Although I will probably go for a 4x4 next time anyway, if the new 5 looks good enough, and has xdrive, I might be tempted to stick with another 5 series.

Crikey that actually looks like it might be pretty good - shame about the screen size as you say but the phone streaming thing looks cool.

I can't imagine it not having xDrive available.

My main worry is that the screw the interior up by moving away from the perfectly integrated navigation display towards randomly slapping a tablet on the dashboard. Which seems all-but guaranteed, because you know, that's cool these days.

:(

It doesn't look 'trashed'. Just looks like it has never seen a Hoover or car wash, he says in the video it was a family members who didn't look after it (or probably care).

So my lease order for this car is confirmed.

I'm being asked if I want to take GAP Insurance. My initial thoughts are no based on the strong residual value on this car. i.e. it's unlikely my Insurance will value the car lower than the outstanding amount left to cover the full cost.

Any other thoughts?
