Hiya all,

My friend just switched to Vodafone from T-Mobile, he got an N95, with 3000 texts and 500 x-net mins a month, with Vodafone Family (the one where you can call 3 selected numbers free of charge for up to 59 mins a time.

He got the phone free, and the tariff costs £40 a month, 18 month contract.

Im currently with Vodafone, been with them 7 years, spend an average of £42-45 a month. I get 1000 texts and 350 x-net mins for £40 a month on a 12 month contract.

My contract 'expired' 2 days ago, and as I want the K810i, and the only way to get that through Vodafone is to 'upgrade' through Phones4U, what do you think the likelihood I can get the same offer as my friend, but on a 12 month contract, and for £35 a month instead?

Im goin to London today for a work meeting, but I plan on going into one of the stores to do the upgrade, although im aware i'll have to phone Vodafone first, as the upgrade tariffs instore are rubbish.

I will let you know how I get on of course!
Probably end up with 100 mins and 100 texts for £50 a month LOL

Is that really a good deal?

I'm got a free N95, unlimited texts, 600 x-network mins with 1 new magic number every 6 months (An orange mobile you can call for as long as u want, when you want, as often as you want), unlimited offpeak data (from 7pm to 7am weekdays and all weekend) - all this for £35 a month (First two months the offpeak internet is free so £30)

Well...

The update is;

I went to Phones4U, apparantly I HAVE to take an 18month contract with them, they were going to give me a K810i for free, along with TWO (yes 2!) Samsung E900's brand new, for the contract I wanted...

However, I had to change my number! So its a no no, which is a shame, unless I went to Orange, but I want to stay with Vodafone as i've just got my mates to join! So no point me leaving them!

You could transfer your number to a payg and then on to your new phone. It's just the whole transfering it from one contract to another on the same network they can't do. Transferring from one network to another and then back again should work fine.

What did they expect you to do with 3 phones?

The K810i is nice, but only in that the K800 is nice - don't expect anything, but a cosmetic difference between the two

But they can't put my number back can they? As I'd essentially be going from Vodafone contract - another vodafone contract...?

Yea, the K810 isnt amazing, i've been waiting for a non-joystick similar spec, I have the W810i, and the only natural upgrade is the K810 at this time... :(

But the K810 has a joystick...

I know mate, thats what I mean, i've been waitin for a non-joystick one with a similar spec but it just doesnt seem to be coming.

By time it comes out I'd prob be due another upgrade!

True, that's why I said you should get a payg sim aswell. Get a payg sim on another network, transfer the number to that and then back to your new phone. I think you can still do it with payg phones, though they may have closed what is a bit of a loophole, so check before you try it though.

Ah the dodgyness of that! Did you happen to work for the link or phones4u at some point? We used to pull that one if we really needed the connection, but its really not meant to be allowed :D

nope, but I think it was the link that first introduced me to it! Thanks to it I've only ever had one mobile number for about 7 years now.
