....that anyone can recommend for my lady? The drawback is that they have to be through WH Smith as she has some vouchers left over from her birthday.

She already has in her basket:

GOT: Dance with Dragons 2,
War Horse

She was getting into "Legend of the Ice People" but they are no longer publishing them in English.

NO CHICK LIT ALLOWED! I am told.

She is an avid reader of Sci-fi, fantasy and anything engaging.

Thanks in advance for the (serious) suggestions, my ears will thank you also :P.

She might like Destiny Quest by Michael J Ward.

Although very old and also like the above, a game book, I would recommend Sorcery! by Steve Jackson. I've played many of these and that is one of the best, if not thee best imo.

If it has to be in WHSmith then presumably it needs to be fairly recent as well unless they can/will order in any books at all?

A couple of fairly recent books I've read and enjoyed are Last Man In Tower by Aravind Adiga as it's well plotted and engaging showing how greed can change people - the back cover calls it Dickensian and while I'd maybe not put it quite on that level it is very good. Another book I enjoyed is Moon Over Soho by Ben Aaronovitch which is an entertaining fantasy-type novel although I actually preferred the first in the series Rivers Of London which felt a bit more taut and should still be available, I think they're often put on the shelf together and it does make more sense if you read them in order but it's not vital I wouldn't imagine.

Thanks for the replies peeps, I can't mind what other books she ordered, I do know she still has over a tenners worth of vouchers left.

Well our most local Smiths, is in Liverpool 1 and the selection is what lead her to start ordering online, that and we avoid the town centre like the plague at weekends.

I'll let you know what she got.
