Good Cheap Server - HP Proliant Microserver 4 BAY - OWNERS THREAD

Received my server today, along with windows home server, am going to be using the hard disks out of my old server.

Does the sever need its bios updating straight away or?

Is there any thing weird about WHS that I need to know / plan for prior to installing?

It's going to be used to hold all my media files, pictures, videos in one location allowing for streaming across the network.

Sorry for all the questions.

Right sorry if this has been answered but in my Microserver I had 2x2TB which were striped so they showed up as 4TB.

Just purchased a 3TB, installed it, but I can only add it as a Simple Volume. I want to add it to the pool making a big 7TB drive.

Is that possible? I'm running WHS 2011

Thanks all

my n40l arrived today! :) I installed my 8GB memory and the hard drives and booted off my ubuntu server flash drive. I'm running a memtest (taking FOREVER!). The server is making a very very high pitched noise. It is no loud at all but because it is so high pitched it is really annoying me :( It sounds like a capacitor or a power supply. Anyone else have this problem?

Dont think whs2011 supports drive pooling without the use of addins?

using whs2011, have been trying drive-pool but i don't really like it, i thought it would just be a huge drive and you could duplicate folders easily
i seems like you have to use the dashboard and add the folders into that, only the when the individual folders are added you can choose which ones to duplicate
or am i missing something?

does anyone use a dynamic drive (raid?) are there any downfalls with just a mirror of the main drive? as this seems MUCH easier

thanks

How do I fit the included drive into the top drive bay?

What adapters do I need? I have taken top off of the server and front door but can't work out how to fit the drive.

One of these Matt

use the 4 screws on the inside of the door and it slides into the rails already in the top.

a molex to sata power connector is incuded you'll just need a sata cable to feed up and round the left side

:)

it's just one solution - but the hot swap bay makes it easy to change the setup, if you wish to do so, in the fututre

brain dead managed it - see below :)

Yes, use one of those! Especially if you already have one; but, even if not, they're only like £3, so a chunk of money to be saved over the IcyBox approach. To be honest, removing the drive is a 30-second job, anyway: remove top cover, unplug two cables, slide out, replace top cover, you're done. :)

How does it fit if I use the drive convertors I have?

Had another look and can't get my head around how to do it?

Bought one too for £240, free delivery, have to wait for it though, hope the cashback goes smoothly....

Going to see what parts from my old desktop pc will work in it like the ram and bluray drive.... Maybe even a slightly bigger hard drive.
