Good iPhone earphones that have all the inline remote functions

Hi Guys,

When I bought my 3GS I looked for some adapter to allow me to use my existing headphones (EX90XLs) as handsfree. I realised that the adapters out there are pretty crap and the extra cable would be more of a nightmare to manage so kinda left the idea alone.

Im now looking for a set of headphones like the 'decent' Apple earphones with the inline remote (volume/track skip and forward/rewind etc) to replace my current headphones. They need to sound good (which is why Im not getting the Apple ones) with all the inline remote functions and be handsfree of course.

No idea what the cost involved would be, but Id definitely prefer it to cost less than £100.

TIA

Oh really? I assumed they did but just were poor for sound quality :(

It seems even throwing money at the situation doesnt appear to help - I just want something that lets me listen to my music/podcasts with good sound quality (and maybe dull the background noise), control them via a remote so I dont need to touch the phone and then deal with calls as normal...

Doesnt sound too hard - right?

I'm in the same boat, but there is nothing out there. There used to be some creative ones, but I can't find them in stock.

The Apple in-ear with remote and mic DO work on the 3GS (I've got a pair) but the volme controls don't work on the 3G. On the downside they sound absolutely terrible and can't handle volume levels much above mid-range. Maybe I got a dodgy pair but I used them for all of a day before they were consigned to my "backup" headphones and they currently sit with my MBP in case I want to watch a film in bed without disturbing the missus.

I ended up getting the Ultimate Ears Metro.fi. No inline volume control but I rarely adjust the volume once I'm started (and the phone is generally in my pocket anyway so it's no biggy to adjust if really needed). Sound is wonderful and has the inline control for pause/track-forward/track-back and call pickup. Microphone works well and I have been told it's clear as anything on the receiving end. Well worth £30 and I put them up there with my £100 Goldrings in terms of sound quality (from the Iphone at least).

ultimate ears super.fi 5vi

I have the triple.fi 10vi and they work great with my iPhone 3GS. I am sure the 5vi will be very good for around 100 quid.

I got some Sennheiser MM50 i think it was. (it dosnt say on them and i dont have the box with me).

I got mine at the airport so paid over the odds for them but id just broken my white ones and needed something to listen to on a 10 hour flight. Think they put me back around $100.

They sound good for what your working with (my music is mainly in MP3s) and are comfortable and the remote works just like the normal apple one.

I had two pairs of UE headphones and they both broke in the same place, the headphone jack. Sounded spiff though. I only had the 4s and they sounded good.

The Sennheiser ones are nice, as are the etymotics imo.

If people wouldnt mind confirming what the inline remote does for each earphone they have that would be great - its the biggest issue Ive found when looking at them that they dont give you details what they do.

Sometimes they only take/end/reject calls but I also want them to play/pause; skip tracks back/forth; rewind/fast forward and also change volume (though the volume part is not that essential as someone pointed out there are hard buttons for them on the phone). Basically the remote functions I would expect from any MP3 player...

Ultimate Ears Metro.fi (£30)
Ultimate Ears super.fi 5vi (~£100)
Sennheiser MM50 (~£60?)
Etymotics ?
Klipsch Image S4i

Will check those out if they fit the bill above (Senns seem to do - also have a new MM80 out too)...

TIA

Ultimate Ears single button control lets you pause/play and next/previous track.

They may do more but I never looked at the instructions :p

Check out if you can get a good deal on the triple.fi 10vi, I got mine from the USA for around 120 quid and they are awesome!

Also, make sure you get a pack of Comply Foam Tx-500 tips with wax guard.

They are by far the best tips for comfort and sound isolation, I used them on a 10 hour flight no problem.

I 'might' be considering the cheaper end of the spectrum now (~£50) as Ive realised the majority of what I listen to are podcasts when commuting so unsure if I would appreciate better ear/canalphones considering the source.

Also knowing how I look after earphones (just stick them into my inside coat pocket and forever untangling the ********s) it might be better to buy cheap.

Hmm I hope though Im not too close to Apple sound quality though - MM 50s or the Metro.fis seem ideal. Now I just need to find some conductive thread :p..

I'm sure whatever you get will be better than the Apple ones.

Conductive thread? going to be integrating them into some clothing?

Naaah nothing as clever - just need to make sure I can use my iPhone without taking my gloves off...
