I would search for this as I'm sure it must have been covered before, but I obviously can't, so here it is again.

I've been having a look at some IT training companies, mainly the ones you see on telly. I'm a bit wary of them, are they actually worth the time/money? How easy is it to actually get a job once you've completed the relevant courses (which courses are actually of use?) or are there any that find you a job afterwards like the driving school instructer people do?

I've no doubt many people are sick of these questions, but it's the first place I thought I'd ask.

Anyone used a training company before?

The best IT Training Company you can use is your own PC, google and a bit of dedication.

IT Training companies absolutely suck and churn out "qualified" people with no idea what they're actually doing.

Not certain tbh, networking floats my boat a bit though, always enjoyed that side of things.

The only reason I ask about companies and not just learning yourself is the more structured approach etc.

I'd avoid training companies. They are there to make a profit, so they'll charge through the roof. Check out your local colleges, am sure some of them will do the CCNA, part-time afternoon studies.

Thanks for th tip. Is the cisco course a better bet than an MS certified one?

as to whether you should go for cisco or M$ courses really depends on what you want to do. the CCNA is about £1000 if you go into college 2 nights a week and if you do it home taught through one of these training companies it costs nearer £1500 as for the M$ im not too sure.

i've used a company called spring IT, though they may have changed their name recently.

they quote £1500 for a 5 days MS course, but you can get them down and make deals.

I got 5x5day MS courses for £2300.
