Having worked in the industry for a long time and recently having gone through an SAP implemntation (going cheapo by using Indian IT consultants) I can safely say that Indian's are just not very good and definately not diverse in their knowledge.. Yes that is a sweeping generalisation but without doubt my findings.. EDI is another popular one the Indians go for.. Once again they may know their EDI the ones that are apparent specialists.. But thats where the buck stops. Most American's and British workers are able to expand and work in other area's as well as their speciality. I've yet to meet an Indian (foreign worker) Obviously that doesn't apply to a British raised Indian.. But it has lead me to wonder WTF are they doing out there in building skillsets?
You just explained every problem in your post, yet can't see it.
Basic workers that are happy in a minimum wage job AND DON'T CONSTANTLY WANT TO MOVE ON UP, is what companies are desparate for.
Highly qualified people for crap jobs = lose lose for employers, you get such a high turn over on the staff you end up paying job agencies and temp workers millions and millions more a year than simple basic not overly ambitious staff would cost you.
Graduate workers aren't suited to basic work, and several people in this thread seem to think extra knowledge helps in a basic job like in a call centre. They don't want you thinking outside the box, they want you to read from a script and never move to a better job, thats it.
Thats unfortunately the problem Labour is fostering, no ones too stupid to be a doctor, nurse, electrician, whatever you want, everyone can go to uni, no one should be happy stuck in a minimum wage job for life, everyone can be a millionaire, blah blah blah.
In reality a good portion of the population will be minimum wage from 16 till the day they retire, thats life, thats how life works.
Why do people get upset when they go with a masters is computer science for a basic job and get told they are overqualified, its because it costs them time and money to train you, takes time and money to interview and hire people, and someone that qualified will move on the first chance they get.
