Hi all,
I have found a handful of wireless AV transmitters, but they all seem to be hugely (prohibitively) expensive.
Where we live there is very weak signal, and the current aerial comes down to our lounge, where I plug it into an amplifier to boost the signal. TV works well. Great!
Now, I am not in a position to chase wires and rip the house to pieces to add coax around the house (when we next do building work I may consider it, but then I would add cat5/6 throughout the house anyway),, we don't watch much TV at all to be honest, but it would be nice / convenient to be able to watch TV in another room. At the moment the other TV we have (we have 2 TVs in the house) just streams from the internet via the plex server (i.e. iplayer) or indeed any of our DVDs/BRs we have ripped on the plex server.
Anyway, I think an alternative would be just to buy a set top box, plug an AV transmitter to it so that our second TV could get live TV.
My concern is something like a Marmitek Gigaview 545 Wireless Sender Kit won't have the range, as there are a couple of internal walls? And it's SCART - but I guess beggars can't be choosers. I'd plug that into the set top box by the aerial, and since it has IR as well I'd be able to control that set top box, from the other room - great! I just don't know if it will work through walls - the fact it is 5.8GHz is good as it means that wifi won't interfere.
In the future when we redecorate I will add cabling to allow a solution to this, but for now I'm looking for alternatives. I know that you can't re-broadcast a TV signal without a licence, so I'm not going down that route (although easy enough to do if you're being unscrupulous).
I've always been under the impression that AV repeaters suck, so I was hoping to avoid using one if there's a solution that you can suggest, but happy to give one a go.
