well, i turned my pc on this morning and found asus smart doctor showing the gfx temp a bit high, about 63C.

almost exactly 1.5 hours of arma2 later and it was dead. here is the gpuz log:

http://ojyrrg.blu.livefilestore.com...XBJgwNLf6xmyAir-X/GPU-Z Sensor Log.txt?psid=1

after reading that i found it weird that the fans only reached a maximum or 49% (3100rpm) when it was trundling a long at 91c.

another strange thing is that smart doctor is supposed to intervene when the temperature reaches 90c and minimise the 3d window.

basically this is a warning to people cause the software didnt work.

im lucky cause the vendor will give me a refund and ill probably get one of the inbound 6900s.

It seems strange that while Asus components can overclock very well, however the software they thrown in the package tends to be more of a hindrance than a help.

why does the voltage shoot up to 1.648v at 13:25:55? Thats massively too high. The VDDC current jumps from around 15 amps the 50+!

I have had an issue with smart doctor in the past bumping the voltage up on its own decision to something way too high. I started using msi afterburner.

Love how people jump on the ati driver bashing bandwagon

For once someone shows some proof of a card utterly failing! hope you get a better one and it lasts you a long long time! hate it when things like that happen

ufffffffffffff! thats insane, and i didnt notice it before

i guess its a combination of that "ef" up and the automatic fan settings in smart doctor, which seemed to have preference for quiet (probably would have been ok without that voltage increase).

got my 8800gt back in for now, its not bad but i do want a more up-to-date card. gona have to wait until the 15th i guess :( see what the prices are like etc.

yeah, really a coincidence and very lucky that i have some sort of proof whats happened, cause the 3d load doesnt drop so u can see its not something that i have alt-tabbed to do myself.

and i didnt touch smart doctor at all previously, no fan control, no voltage, no nada.

Aye, keep away from the smartdoctor, only time I used it was to try 1.5v through previous cards as an overclocking experiment. Afterburner is much more reliable and better in every single way

I had an Asus 5870 and when I used smart doctor it caused some micro stuttering in some games. Uninstalled it and the stutter was gone. Horrible bit of software!

uff, well i put my 8800gt (also asus) back in and let windows 7 install the drivers and it seems much faster than it did before - also without smart doctor now.

still didnt make my mind up if ill get an identical replacement / upgrade / just my money back... probably ill try and stay with asus for the voltage tweaking warranty (in case i ever wana use it) and use msi afterburner as suggested.
