Hello there !!

I was just wondering if anyone had noticed that Google earth has started looking really crap when you get in close ?

Ok, I know its never been "perfect" but when just having a quick look now to familiarise myself with an area I noticed it was...well..... awful !!
I even went back to look at a place I knew for a fact looked in good detail before and even that was looking shabby now.

Anyone know what's gone on ??

It think it's a bug because I've seen it happen on mine. I also use Live Maps as they have a birds-eye view which gives a very nice picture of an area that looks nothing like the standard aerial view.

You can change the angle and height in google earth if that's what you mean. Looking at 3d mountain ranges is really cool.

Yeah I've put GPS data in it from walking in Wales and you can see the mountains really well. Birds-eye view is different though, in Google Earth your sill looking at the aerial picture, just from an angle, in Live maps it's an actual picture taken by an aircraft so you get a different perspective, it's only availiable in populated areas but it looks great.

For example click this link:

http://maps.live.com/#JndoZXJlMT1id...lNDQuOTMzNjk2Mzg5Njk0NyU3ZS0xNi45NjI4OTA2MjU=

And then switch between Aerial and Bird's Eye and you'll see the difference.

Another thing that has happened is that the picture of our area now is older than the one that we originally saw. We live on a relatively new estate and the road we live on was the last to be completed. When we originally downloaded Google Earth, 3 houses were completed, including ours but the rest of the road was just foundations. The picture available now shows no building work at all, just a dirt track with vehicles parked up.
