Just announced, available from 5 October - anyone getting one?

I've had a 2 for a few years and it's been great. I've been waiting for the 4 for a while so will be snapping one up next week.

Yes I think I will. I've been waiting a while for one - I didn't want to get the 3+ and find the 4 was then quickly released.

However having said that - looking at the specs there doesn't appear to be anything ground breaking since the 3+. A faster CPU to enable higher framerate 4k video seems to be the highlight, unless I'm missing something else.

Better low light performance, more framerate options for the other video settings, more manual control over the image in Protune (which is also carried over for stills now), better sound quality. Looks like a good update over my 3+. Glad they stuck to the same basic design too.

Ah ok sounds like I made the right decision in waiting then :) I just hope the battery lasts a reasonable amount of time - according to a friend who has a '3', the battery life seems to be one area in which there is room for improvement.

The 4 apparently uses the same battery as the 3+... So not really any improvement! Reviews so far say 2.5 hours from a full battery.

The £99 hero looks pretty good. I only want one for odd usage and some timelapse stuff, even a second hand HD hero 1 or 2 cost more than £99!

Yep. The HERO is the best bit in the announcement for anyone not into serious film making. Its significantly cheaper than the HERO3 White and not far behind the spec of the HERO3 Silver. Its going to be well under £100 from other shops too.

Around £369 for the Black edition.

I've got to admit I was a little disappointed when the specs leaked that the rumoured 240fps mode is not present at any resolution. 120fps at 1080p was expected and is useful, but a 240fps mode in 720p would have been nice.

I think I'm going to wait it out to see how it reviews rather than pre-ordering. As I've said before, the battery life has never been as good since the Hero3 models onwards, so it would nice to see an decent improvement in that regard.

Not a chance. The current battery doesn't last anywhere near that long, and as soon as you turn on WiFi or, God forbid, try and live stream even briefly to make sure it is set up correctly, the battery just dies.

2 1/2 hours on, yes. 2 1/2 hours on and actually doing something, not a hope. For a morning's biking I need to take at least two spare batteries.

Wouldn't surprise me to be honest! My friend has the Hero 3 black edition and the battery last just over an hour on 1080P. I'm planning on getting either a 3+ or 4 depending on what the reviews say. Hopefully the 3+ may come down in price a little.

Yeah this is what I was touching on in my post.
With the Hero and Hero2, I could spend a full day snowboarding carrying three batteries which would get me through the whole day with juice to spare.

The Hero3 Black is dire in comparison, I've had a number of frustrations of finding my battery is dead not long after starting what I was doing. Like you say, if you use WiFi for the remote or the app, it sucks the life out of it. I remember when I first got it trying to do a time-lapse recording to my phone, it only lasted about 40 minutes before it was dead.

The battery backpac helps, but then that takes the camera back up to the size of what the Hero/2 model was anyway, so kind of defeats the point of it being smaller.

Just ordered (or it says pre-ordered) from gpdealer.co.uk. Have I been done? I could have ordered from Deamon Tweaks, that didn't say pre-order, but they both had the countdown to 8am to order. Why would you count down, then just pre-order? My email doesn't say when they will have stock.

I see Deamon Tweak are throwing in a 32gb Micro SD, but then they charge £7.50 for postage, where gpdealer postage was free.

**EDIT** Also, what's the best video editing software to maintain the high frame rate and 4K resolution? At the moment I use Corel Video, it definitely has a 4K option for encoding, but if I use the 1080p mp4 settings, will it keep the high frame rate?

I can't find anywhere cheaper than £369 and i'd expect those prices to hold until after Christmas quite easily. When you get it you'll have to let us know yours thoughts!

My wife ordered one for me this morning from Currys (surely not an OCUK competitor in any way, shape or form?) - next day delivery for £4.99, due to ship tonight via DPD.

I'd pre-ordered from a specialist, but received a very apologetic call from the owner to say that the UK distributor had cut their initial allocation in half on Friday, meaning I'd missed out. Park Cameras told me pretty much the same in terms of allocation yesterday.

This is what worries me, I've not really had any confirmation of what is now happening and there's no way on their site to cancel the order. Maybe I'll call them tomorrow, cancel and get one from elsewhere.

Spoke to the guy from gpdealer, I was thinking to cancel and order from Curry's. He seemed a very nice guy, was very open about how GoPro made it a little difficult for him, how many orders he'd had, how many were coming in etc. He was expecting a batch today or tomorrow.

I've decided to be patient... and just hope it gets here quick!
