Its looking like a change of username is required, I no longer drive my old beloved Scania R124/LA420,and the replacement for that (DAF 95XF 430) has gone back.
Now, I've now got a Mercedes Benz 2543LS 6x2 Tractor.
Its like moving from a palace to a shed, well not quite, but as I'm going to be living in the thing for 3 - 4 nights of the week, I'm not too happy about it.
This is the bed,
And, where I have to keep my straps, that I secure my load with...
Its simply too small.
A severe lack of places to stow my kit such as ratchet straps, not to mention its got the "poverty spec" gearbox, which for the weight I pull, isn't upto the job.
I've only had it for 2 days & spent one night in it thus far, so perhaps, I'm being a bit critical.
I'll have to give it a week to see if it impresses me or not.
Its nice to drive, but has traction issues which neither the DAF or Scania have, also, its middle axle is fixed, where on both of the other trucks, the middle axle steered with the front, greatly reducing your turning circle.
On the plus side, the drivers seat is better than that of the DAF, the Aircon is superb, and the engine has plenty of grunt. Such a shame its held back by too few gears, it takes a good while to get going when fully freighted.
