Got a Yaris, Corolla or Camry? 7.4 million cars recalled

Well its not Toyota badge. And it is treated as a separate entity. Vag own porsche but a 911 isn't a halo volkswagen .

That is completely different. Many Lexus' are rebadged Toyota's. Acura and Infiniti are the same as they are just a more luxury badge of the company they represent. The LFA is built in Toyota city and the engine is based on the Toyota F1 engine and ironically is built by Toyota/Yamaha. It's just the Lexus badge is more fitting with the car being more up market.

Ya so its not marketed as a Toyota and its not badged as a Toyota like I've already said...andathough you and i know that lexus is related to Toyota i not sure that the average man makes the same distinction.

The infinity brand is somewhat similar. But not the same.

This sounds like a nice pre-emptive recall on the face of it, seeing as there's been no accidents/complaints etc according to the news article. Better than some manufacturers with recurring faults on cars who bury their head in the sand and only fix things when people kick off.

*cough*clio 197 melting clio steering wheel, chocolate gearbox, wonky glovebox, rattly everything*cough*

Audi are just as bad. Mk1 tt dashpod dies, countless clutch pedals broken........

I think the media are completely blowing out of proportion, shock horror.

Some of them don't even acknowledge problems and refuse to recall. I remember that bonnet latch problem with the old clios IIRC.

Most will slate Toyota, but at least they acknowledge problems even ones that aren't in public eye and do something about.

Not really. There aren't "many" Lexus's model around, only one or two are really rebadged Toyota's and they are limited to US market. Lexus might be owned by Toyota and share technology etc (naturally), but they have a separate team too and most of their models are based on independent platforms, to say they are rebadged Toyota's is inaccurate. It's like saying most Audi's are rebadged VW's, well some are actually but not all, actually on second thoughts I'm not too sure, maybe not a good example.

But same thing with Infiniti, some of their cars are independent to their parent, especially on higher end models.

As already mentioned it's to do with the grease application in the switch. If it's been applied unevenly apparently it can carbonise and make the switch feel notchy and stop the windows from working.

Haven't heard about any fires, but possible as it's a safety recall.

There are often recalls going by all the manufacturers, just that it's only Toyota that makes the news.

Well, tbf, it's a hell of a lot of cars being recalled, 7.4million, that's the most since Ford did a recall of 8million in 1996 (can you tell I read the article? :D), hence the news coverage. And also probably due to the recall they did with the accelerator getting jammed on - this on top of that doesn't help their reputation.

At least they are fixing the issue though.

there's a recall on almost all Vauxhall Antara's for a brake issue where the peddel goes spongy and long. Don't see that on the news, yet this is the second time toyota has been on the news for a recall?
I'd have any toyota over any vauxhall any day.

Wonder how much it is going to cost them - at say £100 each (no idea how realistic that is but when you factor in labour, administration costs etc...) that would over three-quarters of a billion pounds - not to mention any intangible damage to the brand etc.
