any modern wireless router will be capable of 10mbit speeds.

i'm on NTL and using a D-Link 108mbps DI-624 which has never let me down so far:)

How do i connect that up? Do i still need the cable modem or do i plug the cable straight into the router?

Cable modem plugs into the router's WAN port using a CAT5 patch cable (the one you're probably using to connect the cable modem to your PC at the moment ;))

Linksys WRT54G is excellent, and even better with the Sveasoft firmware :)
sorry for the hijack, but how does upgrading the firmware on routers work?

i have the same modem (albeit the speedboosted one) and have Firmware Version : v1.05.3.

is this one any good?

Sveasoft is one of a number of companies providing alternative firmware for various Linksys models (I also have a WRT54GS running Sveasoft firmware).

Some of these firmwares are provided free of charge whilst others demand a fee. Sveasoft falls into the latter category. They basically aim to "release" more of the power of the underlying hardware and give you access to things the OEM firmware doesn't, such as VLANs and increased wireless power levels. Whether it's worth it or not depends on whether any of the added features are of value to you.
