Howdy,

So had my Rover 214 for about a month now. I loves it. However when trying to listen to rock or metal the current piece of crap in there doesn't do my music any justice. So I was thinking about upgrading.

I have asked around on another forum and gotten some great help but I just want to double check. Also I would have asked on AVforums but been suspended for a while.

So I was after a MP3 & Bluetooth headunit. I would or liked it to have USB input as well but none around for £200 yet.

Speakers... well I just need 2 front speakers for the moment. Budget is about £50.

Then I was told I should get a amp. Was thinking a multichannel one should I ever want a sub or 2 back speakers. Budget is £90

Then I need some basic sound deadening and cables.

So this is what I have so far:

Pioneer DEH-P55BT
Alpine SPE-17CS
FLI Audio Loaded 800s
Second Skin Damplifier Pack

Could someone be kind enough to check over it, make sure its all good and tell my what Amplifier Wiring Kit I should get?

Thanks for your time,
Tob3z

I never bothered with sound deadening, too much hastle and too expensive. I'd put the money toward a better amp or head unit. Deffers amp the front speakers if you want some good sound. And a sub in later if you feel as they take up a lot of space. good if you want people to get out of your car u dont like, just put some Progidy on and turn it up :D

I'm only going to deaden behind the speakers to stop major rattle and at only £15 I'm sure I can stretch to it.

get a second hand stealth shelf for your car with speakers.
Then get an amp off ebay for it, say 100w RMS per channel.
Then just use the line-in for the amp to plug in mp3 players etc
Get a hands free blue-tooth thingy that clips to your ear you can use anywhere.

Firstly: Your car won't get broken into to steal anything (looks stock except an innocent looking stero jack on a wire.

Secondly: You save a bundle

Thirdly: You get hands free everywhere (eg doing the washing-up!)

(please remove if considered a competitor)

An MDF parcel shelf that looks identical to your current one, only is solidly built, with holes for speakers.

From the outside it looks normal because the shelf is carpeted with carpet that is 'accoustically invisible'.

Spend the money you save on a Nice MP3 player you can take anywhere.

I know what one is, but I'm not getting rear speakers. So no need.

Stealth shelves and 6x9's are ftl tbh. Stay away from them. I fade mine 80% to the front with only a tiny little bit of rear fill (the rear speakers in the 420 are excellent for mid-bass). You get used to not having any rear speakers after a few days and going back to having them just makes the sound very weird.

Tob3z, have a look at these pictures of when I installed some front speakers into my old car... Click

Just a sheet of Dynamat behind the speaker which was then screwed to the metal. No amps, just a budget Pioneer headunit for the first few months until later upgrading to a higher end model (a P80-MP if you're interested). You can get them off the bay for about £120 now. Well worth it!

Even when I sold my old subwoofer, I was more than impressed at the overall sound. A nice amount of bass and great top-end. That was with Infinity 605CS components which I bought off a guy on TalkAudio for £45.

I've not installed them in my new car yet, as I'm holding out for a few rolls of Dynamat. I'll deaden the front doors completely and then build MDF mounts to screw the speakers to.

For sound deadning, get some roof flashing tape from a diy store.

I wouldn't bother with an amp if I was just powering a set of front speakers.

Thank you agw, that was the non chavtastic post I was after. I'm not even thinking about rear speakers or sub just yet but if at some point I get some friends I might want to chuck some components in the back.

At the moment I have some crap headunit, standard speakers in the front and I have borrowed some 6x9s and a parcel shelf just so I can hear some kind of music.

I listen to a lot of metal and rock so it gets very distorted all the time.

How much is Dynamat? I can't find it on the site I'm buying all the gear from (It uses google checkout so saves me a lot of money)

I'm going to post over on talk audio. But cheers agw (Y) and everyone else :)

I bought a pack of two sheets (30cm squared IIRC - it's been a while). They cost about £15 from the bay. You should be able to get some Dynamat Extreme or equivalent (Second Skin etc) for around the same price. If not, just get it seperately from eBay.

The headunit you've suggested in your first post is a goodun. I'm not sure how it equates musically to the P80, but functionality wise, it's very good.

Oh, and to answer the question about wiring in your first post... 8AWG will be absolutely fine. I've had 10AWG in the past and not melted anything.

Lol was that directed at me?
No no dude. Sorry if it sounded a bit rude. Don't worry if I thought there was a chavtastic post here I would or ranted about it :p
