Pointless?
Anything that keeps the general public that little bit safer (and on their side of the road would be nice) is a good thing, even on a mundane vehicle.
It's in better nick than most 56 plate focuses that I've looked at for more money.
You'll start seeing it as standard on pretty much every world-wide car now, since the Americans have made it a legal requirement. (As have many others, see this)It's hardly expensive to include these days - why would they not include it?
