I know this is an old thread but I see that R B Customs has resurfaced and wondered if he could give his opinions. (I have also emailed you on your trust email RB Customs).

I have been recommended this airbrush:

And was thinking of using this undercoat on my model boat, so it will be used on wood, brass and resin.

So I am a complete noob to all this so just wanted to check about this.

If it is just to undercoat a boat, then the Eclipse CS is over kill IMO.

The eclipse is what most people use to start out with airbrush artwork, not just undercoating things.

Have you had a look at the Iwata Revolution airbrushes? anyhting with around a .5 needle will be great for lashing on the colour. I do use an Eclipse CS my self ( see pics) with a .5 needle and it just throws the paint on like there is no tomorrow! fantastic brush. But it is still maybe overkill for what you need.

If you are thinking about getting a bit more advanced, perhaps the standard Eclipse CS, and new needle and needle houseing ( .5mm) will give you almost 2 brushes in one.

I'm not too sure about those paints, sorry :( I dont really use that kind of thing.

tell me if this is JUSt for spraying one big coat, such as primers and basecoats, or you are looking to start out at airbrushing artwork.

hope this helps,
Rick

Hi RB,

Thanks for replying, I know your a busy man.

To give you a better idea of what I will be doing here is the Paint scheme of the Bismarck:
http://www.bismarck-class.dk/bismarck/paint_schemes/paintbism1941rheinubung.html

So I will first of all be doing a base coat on the hull, but then I will masking off the areas to do the other colours etc. Also I will have to prime and then paint grey all the brass work there is, which has very fine details so I don't want a thick coat of paint on it. Just needs a fine coating of primer then the grey coat, so I need an airbrush which will apply the paint in a fine spray.

I will also be doing other models like the Titanic etc so the airbrush will be used again.

Thanks.
