Installed fine, not tested any new games yet but can run HL2 with HDR, 4xAA 16xAF, NFS:Carbon max settings and full AA/AF, F.E.A.R with max detail, soft shadows, AA/AF etc...all at 40-70fps with 30 being very minimum at 1400x900.

Cooler than I thought, too, about 50'C idle going up to 65/70 in games, the fan has never even been past 35% speed yet, which is good because at 100 it sounds like a hairdryer.

Only problem is some games just don't work properly. Farcry doesn't get past the initial splash screen, and the DIRT demo's menu/gameplay is very graphically corrupted.

What could the problem be, I'm guessing drivers, because the card is absolutely fine in other games? Using catalyst 7.6, driver verson 8.383.

farcry problem could be geometry instancing. can;t think what else the problem could be. have you run ati tool to check for artifacts?

Found out why Farcry didn't work. It doesn't load past the starting screen if "Lighting Quality" is set to "Very High". Every other setting is fine on Very High, including 6xAA/16xAF.

Have you got the 256mb version or 512mb?. Having the 256mb card might disable some of the options to go to the highest settings but that's just a random guess as I'm just up and not (yawn) fully awake. :)

It does load on my card but takes AGES at the initial far cry image for some reason, especially after applying the latest patches.

I got that too but a complete reinstall of driver solved the problem. By complete I mean remove driver-boot into safe mode and use driver cleaner-reboot and install new driver.

Also make sure you have the latest DX9 update (June release).

Good things to know as my x1950xt turns up on friday :D

Also... I am running a 6800LE 128MB and last night I had EVERY setting on very high on Far Cry at 1280*1024 and have no problems at all with the game. Very high lighting is no problem, and the game runs super smooth. For that reason I REALLY can't see why 256MB would possibly be a limiting factor.

Perhaps there are other problems you have?

Matthew

The exact setting which causes the problem appears to be "r_Quality_BumpMapping" set to 3 (very high).

Description - Quality level of bump mapping. Type: Integer. Range: [0, 3]. 0 - no bump mapping. 1 - low quality, 2 - high quality, 3 - very high quality.

I have the latest DX and used DriverCleaner but didn't do it in Safe Mode. Just uninstalled the card, rebooted, ran drivercleaner, rebooted again then installed the latest drivers.

Will try DIRT again later.
