I hope someone can give my shopping list the once over. So far the components I'm seriously thinking about are:

Intel CPU Core i7 2600K Unlocked Sandy Bridge Quad Core Processor
ASUS P8Z68 DELUXE
Corsair Memory XMS3 12GB DDR3 1333 Mhz Dual Channel
Crucial 256GB 2.5" M4 SSD SATA-III 6Gb/s - Read 415MB/s Write 260MB/s for Windows 7
3x Western Digital WD20EARX 2TB Caviar Green Quiet SATA 6Gb/s IntelliPower 64Mb Cache 8ms HDD
Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro 7.1 Soundcard
My PSU is a Corsair Professional Series HX1000W Power supply from my last build which I will take with me.

Other bits:
Roccat Kave Solid 5.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headset
ROCCAT Kone[+]
Das Keyboard Model S Ultimate
Asus VE278Q 27" LED Monitor

The graphics card/s is a problem, I know the 590 is a lot of money and I can save money by getting 2x 560's. But im worried about noise and heat and of course, performance. Looking at reviews, the 580 can't run BF3 on ultra at a good frame rate. I don't want to get a brand new system and still struggle to hit those high fps'.

Budget for this rig is about £2000. I would like to get it under that if possible but no dramas.

First thing I noticed, your RAM, you say it's 12GB, dual channel? Pretty sure that doesn't exist, and the corsair website confirms. You can get 12GB triple channel, but you need dual channel. Best to go with an 8GB, or 16GB dual channel kit.

12gb is triple channel z68 is dual channel so get 8 or 16, 16 isn't that necessary.

other than that there is little wrong with your choices.

I won't let my personal disdain for Roccat affect your purchases :)

Yeah my bad in the memory. I will go for 16 only because I do some Video editing and occasional 3d modelling.
Can you elaborate on the Roccat issue? :P
The Kone+ by the way I already own at the moment, had it a week.
I've also noticed that the motherboard has on-board graphics. Just seems a waste to me and I'm sure that where some of the price goes. Any alternatives? Or should I still stick with this one?

It's not the motherboard that has the onboard, it's the CPU itself. You can disable it in the BIOS though.

Is it possible that you can buy the harddrives later? Due to the flooding in Thailand, they're at super ridiculous prices.

The 27" Asus is 1080p, so you will need to look at this graph: http://media.bestofmicro.com/Z/J/313615/original/nvidia ultra 1920.png

Maybe grab two 570 2560mb if you can fit it in the budget?

I'm having second thoughts about my monitor choice. I just want the best picture and a HDMI connection. I don't care about speakers, tilt stands, portrait mode or picture in picture. I want the best picture. Is my choice good enough?
Or does anyone recommend an alternative?

Why are you set on HDMI?

DVI produces exactly the same image quality and doesn't have any of the scaling issues which can arise when using HDMI.

The difference with HDMI is that it carries audio but as you're not bothered about a monitor with speakers that doesn't matter.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I would use DVI for my PC but I would use the HDMI with my PS3. Then use optical out on the ps3 to my optical in on my pc, pass through the sound to my headphones.

I'm nearly at the final stages of ordering this stuff. Problem is with the screen. I just can't find one that I think is the best without paying a fortune. After all, it's the most important part since I will be staring at it.

are you planning on using this for anything other than general use and gaming?

also, why the massive amount of storage? prices are silly right now so if you need storage i'd get the minimum you can cope with and upgrade once the factories have got back up and running and recovered from the floods

Its hard for me to say what the main use would be. I would say gaming, but I don't have too many games just yet. But yes, that and also video editing and perhaps some 3D modelling.
Storage is just to continue my project files and really future proof it. I thought I could never fill my current 1.5 tb drive. I have 5 gigs left. Lots of it uncompressed video etc.

Any thoughts on a monitor? I'm really stuck on a choice.

Wow, thats pricey. I know I could save money with the storage, but I would lose it all again on this beast. Looks good though I will say. I guess my budget was about £250, was that naive?
