Got this seasonal flu virus thing

I got it Boxing day night. The following day was me in bed with sore throat, high fever and huge head ache. The next day got worse so I had to cancel a date I was meant to be going on. Ended up at the doctors only to be told to go home and rest it out.

Last night I was sick. My throat isn't as sore but my fever is still there, I have blocked sinuses and my throat tastes horrid. Still can't move due to weakness.

It's crazy. Totally dehydrated after last night so trying to build my strength back up to drive back down South! Never had a flu this bad before.

Been suffering from a bad cold for 4 days now, shakes, coughing, bunged up nose and a splitting headache. Sweated so much in bed last night i thought id wet myself. Been medicating myself with hot whisky. Hope it clears up so i can go out tomorrow night.

My Wife and Son have had it over the past few weeks, then yesterday I started to get a sore throat and aches and generally feeling like crap.
Spent all night with cold sweats and this morning was really really ill so phoned in sick saying i probably wont be in on Friday.
At dinner time work phoned me to see if i was coming in of Friday as they were short of staff ......grrrrrrr
The way i feel at the moment i really doubt ill be in a fit state to go in.

Got it in on Tuesday, my birthday, been in bed most of the time but feel better when i'm not in bed. Hot cold shiver sick sweat cough sneeze urgggghhhhhhhh. NYE, i'll be lucky :/

Why exactly do these viruses/bugs predominantly seem to do the rounds in winter? Is it something to do with the immune system not being so strong in the cold conditions?

I got hit with it xmas day - still recovering. Certainly didn't help to make my 16 hour shifts at work any more pleasant.

Not so much the sniffles etc, but aching joints, cough, headaches and feeling pathetically weak all the time, to name but a few of the symptoms.

Haven't had a single drink since xmas eve now. Just concentrating on resting and eating/drinking as healthily as I can. With a bit of luck I should be up for a sociable few bevvies on new years eve.

Just getting over this and I'm sorry to say OP, I have had it for what will be 3 weeks over the next few days as it comes to an end. I've NEVER had anything this long...ever. Lack of sleep is the big killer. Just can't sleep when I'm freezing and coughing. When I do get warm, I wake in a pool of sweat after an hour or two.

I came on here to pose this exact question.

I've had it since Sunday and I, generally, NEVER get ill.
WTF is going on with this year?

Got hit with it on monday night, couldn't do anything tuesday and so hada day off work, but weds I was feeling a bit better, was able to move and stand without too much effort, but my approach is to just ignore it and carry on, I'm almost over it now, just got an annoying cough and I feel full really easily when eating  lol

I never seem to catch colds, everybody can be full of it around me & still don't catch it.

Last time i had anything was a slight sniffles back on my birthday last March, & even then i still managed to get to the top of Helvellyn.

I've only ever had Flu once that was back in 1993 when i caught the Bejing Strain, that was going about at the time.

And by Christ was i ill 2 weeks soild being practally bed ridden, and thought i was going to die if i fell asleep at one point.

Basically most people are just suffering from a bad cold, when you catch full on Flu you really do know about it, this is why it can kill kiddies, the weak and the elderly.

It tends to be because in winter people stay indoors and have the heating on at 30C with all the windows closed, the environment means infections and bugs are spread around easier. Possibly immunity is lowered in winter too due to a poorer diet and weather conditions.
