gpu to last till 300 series for gaming and after effects

a 5770 would breeze through css and tf2 at 1080p however you could also get a 4890 which is even faster if you arent bothered about dx11 till fermi arrives.

I personaly would not bother spending much on a gpu at all if you are intending on upgrading to the 300 series. TF2 and CS:S isn't that demanding in comparison to Crysis or GTA4.

CS:S and probably TF2, though I have never played TF so I can't be certain, are more cpu dependent so no need to spend to much at all.

save as much money as you can if it's just seeing you through until the 300s start rolling out. My 9800GT 512MB still handles any game I've thrown at it (nothing after Crysis - which it ran suprisingly well) and has been fine for all the Photoshop / After Effects / Vegas 8.0b work I've been doing recently ;)

I currently have a 4670, cost about £60 I think, and it does me fine for the moment! It plays MW2 at 1680x1050 fairly easily, some settings turned down and only drops a frame now and again.

One of these would be fine for CS:S, no idea about TF2, tbh I've no idea what it is. :P

I'd recommend one of these 4670 if you need something to tie you over until the 300 series arrive.
