I have just bought a Dell Ultrasharp 2405FPW and a Powercolor 1900XT-X graphics card. What I am wondering however, is wether it is worth getting a Crossfire mastercard for the 1900 or a 7900GTX Sli rig due to the high resolution and using high AA & AF. I also have a Leadtek 7800GTX Extreme Edition knocking about spare.

If I go crossfire then I need to change my mobo, which I am not very keen on. If I go SLi, then I just need to buy two 7900GTX's (or a 7800GTX second hand). But the nVidia route doesn't offer AA & HDR does it? Is this just for oblivion at present though?

However, I dont really know how much difference either will make to frame rates in Oblivion and COD2. Is it really worth the extra outlay? I really haven't got a clue what to do at the moment.

Anyone with any experience in these setup's that can help please?

Considering how much extra it would cost to put an X1900 Crossfire card in, I'd personally just shut off the AA. I'm a cheap-skate though, so it depends on your point of view.

I have a 2405.
I also have 7800GTX's in SLI.
I also run Oblivion.

Which makes my system cry :(

Ok, ok it's still really good, but one thing I have learned from using my 2405 is be prepared to spend a lot of cash on your PC if you want to keep running native at high frame rates as newer, more complex games arrive.

Onto the subject at hand, if Oblivion is the shape of things to come (shader intensive), I would be tempted to go X-fire. It's faster than SLI in Oblivion which is a good indication it will be for future stuff too, and much cheaper, so the money you would save from buying 2 7900GTX's would be enough to purchase a new X-Fire motherboard.

My humble opinion :D

This is what I wrote about my 2405 running on my X1800. I am considering getting a 1900 but only cos i am getting GRAW and future games will probably need the extra boost.

BF2 - Can't have all the textures at high, have them at medium and 2 at high no aa i think and personally i think it looks the dogs . Also with that setup my fps is around 60-70 and I never see it drop below 55.

X3 - Reunion - Just got this and can play everything maxed out with no noticable lag, havn't managed to find how to show the fps yet lol.

Oblivion - From memory I play this at its highest settings and have had NO lag whatsoever. Again don't know how to show the fps counter yet.

CIV 4 - Again have it at highest setting with no lag etc.

I have all these games running in full res ie, 1920x1200. And this is with my X1800xt at stock.

Hope that helps and if u have anymore questions post away.

Off topic but that PC should easily be able to do high textures in BF2, AFK_Matrix, since you have 2GB RAM, but I don't play in that resolution so I wouldn't know if that's making the difference. :(

Well I have had the fps counter up and obviously the server i am on makes a difference but if i wack it up to high settings then i am lucky to get 50fps and personally I can't seem to play with that lower fps very well. With the settings I have at the moment I get 70-90fps and to me the graphics are brilliant. I have tried to OC my x1800 but think i pushed it to far as BF2 had a fit. Think I may try again soon. Also I am gonna eventually clock the cpu and mem, just been to busy to these past months.
