Got my graduation next week and dont really know what colours to wear.

These are the gown colours

Most people wear a white shirt and tie but not sure if i want to just be the same as everyone else.

Tomorrow im getting a suit and a shirt and tie. Should i play it safe and stick with a white shirt and nice orange tie or get something a bit different?

You'll have a robe too anyway and a hat. A friend turned up in trainers and a hoodie, you can't tell except when looking at her feet lol

I'd wear a shirt and jacket with shoes. No need for tie (even thou i did for mine) I found the tie really clashed with the graduation "colours" over the shoulder.

I was going to post a similar thread sometime this week...

I have my graduation next Wednesday, and I was thinking of wearing a grey suit, with a really dark green shirt and a light coloured tie...

Not sure how that will look though

Sounds like it would look awful on you.

Just wear a white shirt and a black tie, stand at the back and try not to spoil it for everyone else (this is directed at danger phoenix particularly).

just play it safe, remember the photos will end up on all the relatives mantlepiece and your mum ill be showing it to everyone who steps foot in the house for the next 6 months ;)

Go Away! You are so mean to me! I am telling your Dad and GF on you :p ;)

I think the top uni's have a "you must wear a suit" policy, pretty sure there's something like that at Cambridge, Durham, Oxford and Bristol? Might be worth checking with your uni.

Cheers

Yeah I would go with a suit, but I wouldn't go with an orange tie with a gold and royal blue scarf - not at Anglia are you?! :p those were my colours!

I wore a Cheongsam ;)

I mean the same colour orange the scalf thing is. Nah not at Anglia, Leeds met.
Last year a mate wore a black shirt and orange tie and looked very smart

Dont think id get away with a Cheongsam!

I just wore a suit but ended up taking the jacket off as it was boiling hot on the day, I'll probably keep the jacket on this year with the weather being like it is.

Might as well look smart after all the effort you put into getting there.

Ha ha... yeah probably not!

Unless the orange was EXACTLY the same as the scarf I wouldn't do it and would go with a totally different colour... pale blue or something, otherwise it looks like you are trying too hard and could look silly having everything matching or silly because it kinda almost matches, but there is something about it that just ain't right...

Well thats what I think anyway!

Don't forget to all throw your mortarboards - gutted I forgot that :(

What fabric is your suit made from? Get a shirt that will match with the fabric of your suit and then choose a suitable tie. Don't wear a tie in the same colour orange as that robe, eugh.

Post a picture of your suit and I'll try to recommend something suitable.

think im getting a YSL suit ive seen tomorrow, its nice.

this was what a mate wore last year, i think the orange tie goes quite well
