It would seem then that most people are turned off by the idea of long hours, high stress, and vigorous compeition and would much rather work a ‘regular’ job; however I would find that incredibly boring.

Does the semi colon make sense?

I would have just put a comma personally.

The way I look at it, a semi-colon can be used when the two sentences can work individually. The second part doesn't quite make sense without the first, so I wouldn't have used a semi-colon.

I was always under the impression that if you had a word like 'however' (or 'but', 'nonetheless' etc - I think they're called conjunctions?) then you don't need a semicolon?

No, that is definitely wrong.

Either would work technically, but it's a question of pacing: you need a slightly longer pause than a comma usually adds before the last phrase, to add emphasis. It's not wrong, but one of two possible right solutions.

Personally I'd go with a full stop, and start the next sentence with "I, however...". You've also spelt "competition" incorrectly :)

Either way, the one thing you do require is a comma after "however". But I think those are two distinct sentences.

There should always be a comma either side of the word "however" in the middle of a sentence, because it is a relative clause.
