Grande Punto - Your Opinions

I had exactly the same requirements as you 2 years ago when I was 19.

I walked away with something very similiar to THIS.

150bhp from the same 1.4 turbo engine, about the same price as a Grande Punto, loads more mod cons such as duel zone climate, cruise control and generally even better value for money than the GP.

Insurance group 10 (cost me £800 at 19 with 1NCB). You can get them from £6k now (pretty easily actually - no lower though) so the one I've linked to is just a rough idea.

Oh an for a small petrol engine the T-Jet is brilliant, personally for an engine smaller than 2.0 I don't know of one better really.

I had a Grande Punto as a hire car a while back and thought it was a decent car; much nicer than the horrible Astras I usually get. Decent sized boot (for a super mini), properly usable rear seats with legroom and for a normally aspirated 1.4 it seemed to go extremely well, certainly way more fun than the horribly sluggish 1.6 Astras. That said I'm not sure I'd blow £6k on one.

My god those seats are like aids, horrible in all ways!

The 1.4T engine is cracking. Mother has it in her Bravo and I thought it was more than adequate for the size of the car, very nippy.

She loves it, whether that's an objection opinion for you or not is questionable but she has no complaints. Quite nice little cars if you ask me.

Thanks for the input guys.

I don't think i'd want a bravo. I have no need for a car that big or 5 doors tbh. The sport ones do look quite nice but they are a few grand out of my budget.

I've been saving for 2 years lol.

We have to cram 4 cars side by side on our driveway already, even with my current car it's a pain in the arse. I never carry more than me possibly one other.

Extra weight = extra cost @ pump.

I think the interior of the Grande is alright tbh.

Seats are pretty good too:

The only problem with the Grande Punto seems to be that people either specced them as standard Dynamics which have a choice of hearing aid beige or light blue seats and dash insert or people specced the sporty version of the base model which has nice seats and sporty additions such as side skirts, fogs and spoiler but lacks some essentials like Air Con.

It is quite rare that one comes up locally of a spec that we would consider.

Keep off the beers this early in the day, those goggles really are skewing your view :D

I've learnt to live with them and no one gets in and says they are horrible. They are not nice to look, but they do a job and are easy to sit on.

Anyway enough about the Bravo - sounds like the OP will be happy with a Grande Punto, they are in budget and a very good choice if they want this sort of car. Get one.

Would rather have an Alfa 147 than a Punto.

Running costs (i.e. maintenance, and fixing stuff when things go wrong) will be higher, mind. Something French is also a possiblity I suppose...
